Ok, so I've been reading everything I can for a few weeks now. I'm looking to take the plunge and I was gonna sign up for an affiliate network before I made a site so that I could research what kind of affiliate offers exist and base the subject/content/theme of my site partially on that. However, when I go to sign up, it wants urls for sites I have created already. Did I just go to the wrong affiliate network, i.e. not a particularly newb friendly one? Do I just need to make a site and hope there are fitting offers? Should I just make a site for whatever and do AdSense PPC/PPM ads at first or something? Have I completely missed something?

I thought I had read most of the newb guides and everything was always just kind of like "now pick an affiliate offer" and never went in to how you qualify to sign up for affiliate programs to begin with. I looked at the application forms on Azoogle and Commision Junction and it was an identical issue both places so I'm assuming its a general thing that I have wrong, not something specific to those networks.

Any help or advice is appreciated, even that which is delivered scathingly for being such a newb.

Are the networks requiring a sample site? If not just submit your application without a sample then call them soon after submitting and explain your situation. All they are looking for is to make sure that you have a plan for how you're gonna bring traffic to their offers. If they require a site I would just create a simple blog using wordpress (self hosted) with your own domain (obviously) about some random topic, or something you are interested in. Really whatever. Before I applied to any networks I practiced creating a site anyway just so I knew how to design a decent lp.

A good site for checking out the various offers available if Affiliate Marketing - Find the Best Affiliate Program and CPA Offers from OfferVault.

As far as a site goes, you could just grab a domain, throw up some content copied from another site and put some CJ ads on there. CJ is no big deal to get approved...same with Linkshare. If you're worried about copied content, take it down after you get into some networks.

The phone call is a must, though, whatever you plan to do.

I tossed up a blog post on getting into affiliate networks the other day. It's really not much at all as I was bored as hell and just updated it on my phone but you're welcome to check it out. Link in my sig.

I like the look of your little blog. The header graphics at least are eye catching.
