Hi,
I'm really new to not just Wicked Fire but Affiliate Marketing,

I'll apologise in advance because I'm probably posting in the wrong area, or doubling up or something like that.

I have a budget of around $500 although if I can avoid using it I would like that. My only real question is: How and where should I start?

Most people seem to be talking about starting up specific blogs, that aim directly for a small niche. I've run blogs before so I'm not to worried with Wordpress and hosting and the rest of it, but is blogging the first AM I should attempt? Or should I be attempting to sell click bank products to the small list I have (almost all friends / family)?

I suppose the main purpose of this post is really just to find out what a more experienced marketer started off with.. or what the best way to start is...

Any posts would be greatly appreciated as I am very keen on starting, but need some direction :)

Thanks

First off, don't pull some AMWAY Shit by marketing to your family and friends.

Back in 1986 my second full time sales gig was selling Rainbow Vacs Door to Door and the sales manager had me setup appointments with family and friends to use their support/sympathy to get me my first sales.

I was uneasy and so were they during the sales pitch/presentation. Most MLM's have their people start out like this as well. If the n00bs don't last, then sales manager got some scratch and some new leads for himself outta the deal.

Learn to do Market Research.

Go here and save/download this and then STUDY it before you do anything.

http://lifecycle-performance-pros.com/phocadownload/Resources/Marketing/Desperate-Buyers-Only.pdf

After studying it google squeeze pages or opt-ins. Learn about creating lists and how to maintain them. Then you won't have to rely on only the list of your friends & family or just SEO traffic.

Since you're familiar with setting up a site and administering it, learning about how to find hungry markets & how to service them will be your main hurdles. Followed by how to drive traffic to your site. SEO traffic is only one of MANY ways to get people to a site.

Take some time to read through that PDF. She does have a newer version out but that one will give you the ideas behind basic good marketing.

If you go here and join up & know a little about how torrents work you can find all kinds of stuff help get started.

BizTorrents

P.S. I saw your request. I'll leave it in Limbo for the time being. Let's see if you survive a month here. Then I'll look into it again.

Thank you, greatly appreciated.

That's fine, I'll take it as a bit of a challenge :)

When you have time, go here and read through to see things that can get you booted out of WF.

The first 30 days for a new member here are the shakiest.

Of all the Marketing sites I'm on, this one has the BEST combination of real world info and an atmosphere that you can just let loose in. (Provided you understand the lay of the land so to speak. lol )

If you haven't already, you might want to read through some of my posts in this thread http://www.wickedfire.com/newbie-qu...e-marketing-different-internet-marketing.html for some more info that might be of help to you.

Also, if you make use of Biztorrents you can save that $500 to use for an Auto Responder service, Hosting, Domain Registrations, and maybe to outsource some things if needed.

I tell everyone to learn to build active & responsive lists. It does take WORK, but the list is YOURS and no search engine can sandbox it.

So anytime you have a new offer to promote, service to sell/promote, or an item to sell you just send out a shout to your list. You can then evaluate your offer without having to use PPV or PPC.

Follow this link What is a "list" worth? and go down to my post in there. It starts at post #3 and I posted a few more times in the thread. You'll see some of my thoughts on lists.

I'm putting this link up since you said you're new to all of this. This is a "Guru" guide that he sent to people who gave their emails. I hacked his URL and got it to review without giving him an email address.

Free Affiliate Marketing Guide - JonathanVolk.com

IGNORE a lot of his GURU crap and just pay attention to the DESCRIPTIONS of the various facets of Online Marketing. He has affiliate links though out this thing. You can either click the ones of interest, or just Google the names and go to their site without the aff links.

I know next to nothing about this guy, but I found this guide in like 20 seconds on Google and then bypassed the sign up to view it real quick.

It was made back in 2010 and some of the Networks he has listed are no longer around. Again, just read about WHAT goes on in affiliate marketing.

It's actually a pretty good overview for someone just starting out to get an AWARENESS of the things you will NEED to learn about and implement in order to make money online.

Again thank you your help and kindness is greatly appreciated. Its funny because I almost got caught up in buying a guru's product, but then thought the screen shots of their clickbank accounts are probably showing all the money generated through their products they almost sold me!

I'll give you another link to read since I see that you've almost got BITTEN by a Guru.

Welcome to the Affiliate Marketing Step by Step Guide | Dealer Dan's Affiliate Bible

There is a TON of FREE info/advise out there and 9 times outta 10 it will be much more useful than the so-called Guru crap.

The Biztorents link I posted above will have almost ALL the Guru stuff on it and you can get it and read through it for FREE.

Set up a few what "I" call Bogus email accounts. I have ALL the JUNK crap from when I research my competition and they want a name and email before I can go any further go to those accounts.

Here's one provider I use Free Webmail and Email by mail.com | Sign Up Now!

You can even choose from 200 different addresses there.

I'm not a fan of 1 &1 Hosting, but for a FREE email account they also have a decent one. Free Webmail and Email by GMX | Sign Up Now!

Those are just two of the many that I use. Of course you can use Gmail, MSN, Yahoo, etc...etc....

While I'm thinking of it, here's a few links from a place that gives straight up real world advice for free and then has a LEGITIMATE Wholesale program here in Florida.

Dropshipping Blog | Worldwide Brands

Wholesale Drop Ship Products, Product Sourcing and Drop Shipping Supplier | worldwidebrands.com

Free Learning links from their site:

I started Internet Marketing by selling part time on eBay back in 2004 and I later got a Lifetime Membership at World Wide Brands.

I don't sell on eBay any more and rarely go to WWB now a days. But they are both viable ways to earn money online besides affiliate marketing.

DISCLAIMER: Though I belong to/am a member of WWB none of the links above are affiliate links, though they do have an affiliate program.

Haha I'm surprised so many people put the cheeky affiliate link in there,
Again thank you so much :)

Ill read up and see what happens.

Personally I would start a small niche blog, as once you get this up and running it can be easily sustainable. then I would start moving onto different and larger ventures.

You don't have to be picky with what you start with, but when you pick something you need to stick with it. Most people fail because they don't remain consistent and tend to give up much much too early.

Thanks, is this what you started with?

So I'd start the blog with wordpress and a paid domain that is pretty specific, then post frequently with good content and monetize it with amazon, ebay and/or click bank ads?

Thanks, your help is appreciated :)

Yep,

Find a unsaturated niche where you're familiar with and start working on SEO, advertising and building a fan base for it.
