Guys,

I have just registered here about a month ago. Since then I have just been reading postings as someone who is a complete novice to Internet Marketing. The problem i have now is i do not know where to start. I have a day job where i spend 12 hours a day, for 4 days. I really need to learn to start making extra as times are hard. Where, or what do I start learning? I had someone who promised to teach me all I need to start earning from IM, but he is asking for £1500 to 1800 which I do not have at the moment. I need some solid advice all. Please tell me where or what to start learning. As for dedication, leave that to me because, once I start learning something interested, i will be glued to it.
Thanks all in advance.
Hawkeye.

I have been reading this forum for about 2 months now, but from what I have seen it comes down to actually picking a topic, doing research, seeing if you are able to compete and then getting to work. There is a ton of advice on getting links, how to optimize your page, and now from what I have read about the panda/penguin updates how to not over optimize and get penalized.

I am trying to go with SEO from the start in the health niche to see what I can do, from the start I am planning on this site being an Made For Adsense site, but if it ranks well I might swap it over to another offer. I chose a EMD, before the recent update so we will see if I will need to abandon it and start over with another domain name. I am also picking up that building a list is absolutely key! This way, once you get someone interested in your free newsletter, info product, pdf, etc... you can then build a relationship with them and continue to sell with them. Best part about this method is that once you have their email address you will no longer be reliant on google

I am also new so this may not be that helpful as I am also learning. But overall from what I have read it comes down to just spending time linking, creating content, testing, and never giving up. If something doesn't work, ask yourself why and see what the top pages are doing and emulate. hope this helps

Hey Hawkeye - welcome to internet marketing. I'm going to list some tips for you-

*] Don't quit your day job - not until you're already bringing in good money. There is a ton of opportunity out there still, so don't be discouraged.

*] Pick a topic you are passionate about and just dive right in - make a site, slap wordress on there, and start pumping out excellent content, or if you have some extra money invest in quality writers. Don't pick a topic that is too vague, or too specific. I find that when you go to specific you are limiting yourself. You could argue that if you wanted to start covering something else, just start a new site.. but because your new to this I'm sure you don't want to get too many projects going.

*] As far as SEO, It's easier to go after longtails. In time, doing well for many longtails will help you rank for the big money phrases in the niche.

*] Don't pay anyone to teach you IM. The only way to really learn something is to dive right in and LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. In time, you will get it if you stay focused and work hard.

*] Building a highly targeted email list is one of the best ways to make money, as well as promoting high quality affiliate products. Don't push any products that you yourself don't think are high quality, because people won't trust you.

*] Repeat customers are best, and if you treat your email list right they will pay you over and over again.

*] Internet marketing is no 'get rich quick' deal. 95% of people who get into IM fail, and quit. They generally fail because they give up too soon - Find a way to push through and keep going, and eventually you will get it. This is why you want to pick a topic you are passionate about - it will be much easier to push through long hours.

*] Don't believe everything you read.

Good luck bro - If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to give it a shot at answering them.

Definitely don't pay that guy unless he promises results.

In terms of direction, follow your gut and what resonates with you. There are a lot of avenues, but they aren't all ideal for you. They key is picking one avenue & staying with it long enough to learn & draw lessons from it. Then, you can try out another.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It's a growth process. You can't expect to make money overnight. Keep learning & growing, but limit that time so you put more time into acting on what you learned. If you find yourself on here more often than trying stuff out, you need to refocus. Keep at it & best of luck!
