OK at least one of my larger sites is close to being done (finally- been delayed way too long). My ideas aren't affiliate-centric, and have more to do with general traffic (think services like those online sticky note type sites or mind mapping, not blogs or landing pages).

I would like to add a newsletter to keep my users updated on changes to the site, as well as hopefully adding another revenue stream.

If you are running a site without a specific target market and where your traffic is not looking to buy anything to find out information about anything, what can you put in a newsletter to help generate some income?

Just looking for ideas here...

Also, is there a legal disclaimer I need to put in place when people sign up for the news letter?

Thanks!

Is there a specific niche? I mean... Everything has a vertical. For instance, it sounds like you're working on a product that helps people get organized. Try looking for books on organization that you can promote, or seminars, or other web products that you'd recommend.

It might take some digging to figure out exactly what your audience is looking for.

As far as a legal disclaimer, do you plan on selling that list or just you mailing to it? If you do not plan on selling it, I would add something like "here at domain.com, we do not sell your email addresses. By filling this out you opt in to receiving further communications from us at domain.com." I added something similar to that on one of my sites and it helped increase my list. It is true you don't sell the list, but yet you are kind enough to fill their inboxes with offers.

legal disclaimer: just check the CAN SPAM legislation and comply with that.

You don't have to actually put any offers in your newsletter. Every time you send it out your traffic will spike, and your existing web page will generate more income for a day or two. In my case, the main newsletter that I used to send would come close to doubling the daily revenue, and it was 100% content, nothing commercial. Readers would click through on links, visit the forum, click on adsense ads, etc.
