Nice, Google dropping support for IE7 and more...

Applaud them really, so sick of people supporting old fucked browsers. I don't give a shit how much traffic you get from them, you have to make a stand some where or shit will never change.

Finally. I was waiting for them to do this. Honestly, Internet Explorer is the most bullshit browser there is. They should stop trying to make it better because to be honest, nowadays people are more commonly using browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. Its about time they get rid of those old, worthless browsers.

IE still has a largest market share, typically around 40%+ with Firefox the next highest in the mid 20s, on sites frequented by average users and not web professionals. People aren't more commonly using other browsers, most use what comes with their operating system. Most people don't even know what a "browser" is.

Unfortunately as long as most people still buy windows computers, most people will still use IE. I can't wait for the day IE is irrelevant and useless, but I can't see that day coming for another 5 years, at least. Too many people who just know nothing about the internet using IE.

Thats right. You have given out a fair, decent point. In April 2011, over 40% of the population with internet access used Firefox as a browser, with Internet Explorer coming second with 24%. This is, like you said, mainly due to the clear fact that Internet Explorer is the default browser with all computers. However, some people need to open their eyes. Internet Explorer is not a good browser and Im sure you may know that too. Its capabilities may match other browsers but at the end of the day, I prefer using browsers such as Chrome, Firefox or Opera. In 2002, nearly 3/4 of the population used Internet Explorer and each year from that year onwards, the percentage decreased by atleast 4%. It started at 83.4% in 2002 and now in 2011, it is 24%. See the difference? Again, they have made a good choice to abandon the old browsers and I respect them for that.

You weren't listening and you've got your numbers backwards. 40%+ still use IE... if you're looking at W3 Schools for your numbers then they are heavily skewed towards web professionals (and they say this on the page) and aren't indicative of the average web user. You need to look at the analytics of a typical site. Here are just a few on one of my servers...

Site 1 (Marine Contractor):
IE = 51.39%
FF = 22.03%

Site 2 (Supplements):
IE = 42.48%
FF = 25.66%

Site 3 (Supplements)
IE = 58.59%
FF = 21.41%

Site 4 (Adult)
IE = 44.03%
FF = 22.25%

Thank god, I can deal with IE 8 and 9 but 6 and 7 were a major PITA. Been waiting for this day for years.

Google is pushing html 5 and that's a good thing. I'm surprised already how many IE 9 and Firefox 4 browsers I see in analytics.

unfortunately, just because google is dropping support doesn't necessarily mean IE 7 is going to go away. The people who use IE 7 are the same people who call their browser the "internet". like "oh let me open up my internet program". They don't know any better.
