Dudes, I think one my previous questions got lost in all the action on this thread. I'm reposting it.

Paying someone to do directory submissions. (I've seen some good reviews on some folks on the For Sale forum) Is it a good or bad thing to do? Will I see a bump in traffic from this? If so, how effective are they and how many should I buy? Honest feedback here.

Now for the question - where do i upload my pages to on the ip address Mike gave me? so that people can view my work to date?

Okay, so as i said, I'm a total n00b here. How do i get access to the site, admin, cpanel or whatever. Like i said before, you will probably get alot of silly questions from me, that is one of the reasons i took this on, so I can learn WTF I'm doing. Please bear with me.

Another awesome web editor is Aptana. www.aptana.com

It has code assist and includes all the best Ajax libraries and tons of samples. Another is Nuvue. Its comparable to Dreamweaver.
 
@CCLIND normally, you get the access data (URL, username, password) and then you go and log into cpanel.

In keeping with mattgatten's addition to the offer, I'll throw in help with WP for anyone who needs it. I have been working with WP for a while now, and have built out several different memes of it (WP is way way way more than just a stupid online diary application, in case that hasn't crossed your minds yet.) If anyone in this batch wants to PM me I can help you with:

1) Finding the WP layout that is best for your niche and presentation (ie. how to make a video site out of WP, how to make a social networking site, how to make a magazine, etc.)

2) Comparing different plugins that do similar things, getting them installed and configured for your needs.

3) Basic theme/template editing. I do not do graphics and I do not do aesthetic design, but as far as CSS, layouts and the basic colour scheme go I can help you get it looking like you want.

4) Finding, setting up and managing feeds.

5) "SEO infrastructure" for WP (getting title tags write, permalink management, sitemap setup etc.

This is free help, so it will be largely around my own schedule, but I'll try to get our timetables lined up well enough so that you aren't standing around waiting for me to help (come to think of it, if "standing around waiting for help" is your thing you should probably quit now and go work at Hardee's.)

This is only for the newbies in this case study, and only for the sites indexed to the domains and hosting that Mike has so generously put up. Please don't go asking me to build out other stuff for you, unless you bring money.

Another thing too. Google sees these two addresses as different sites:

I put in the spaces and 'dots' to let you see it better.

You want to use one or the other. Most suggest the 2nd one. The fully qualified domain name.

To get around folks using both address styles in links and such you can modify your .htaccess file inside the www or public_html folder.

Place this code in there and change 'yourdomain' to the actual domain name.

My progress so far with this domain.

1. I've used the Google Keywords Tool, Keyword Tracker (free version) freekeywords.wordtracker.com to identify the keywords I want to use. I'm settling for the best 4-6 keywords I can come up with. I plan to concentrate on no more than 4 keywords for each page.

2. I've looked at the competition using google search tricks like:
allintitle: www dot domainname dot com
allinanchor: www dot domainname dot com
link: www dot domainname dot com
site: www dot domainname dot com
linkdomain: www dot domainname dot com (good one. Tells you the domains that link to the targeted domain).

3. Determined how I'll lay out my content structure. For mine, I'm planning on content pages for each year of the Honda accord. Wordtracker indicated that lots of searches are going on for the individual years. ie. 1999 Accord or 1999 Honda Accord. I want focused pages for each with 3 or 4 pieces of content on each. (The title tags, header info, and year model specific content will be dynamically inserted into each page allowing me to use a template for each). Will probably be the introductory article for each year.

4. Started locating content from around the various resources (article directories, wikipedia, etc) and rewriting things to be original on my site. In addition, I'm 'finding' images that I'll massage with Photoshop. (This is the time consuming part until I get my scraper finished).

5. In parallel, I'm installing wordpress and an 'adsense/YPN friendly' theme and I have to call Samantha at NeverblueAds this evening to finishing setting me up on their network.

Feedback appreciated: If I'm doing something out of order or wrong let me know. Teach me to fish, don't give me a fish.

I'll keep folks posted on my progress.

My Progress so far for FANTASYPINUPART.COM
Where I'm getting hung up is on time. Gonna have to do this after the kid goes down (ok...nuff whining)

day 1
  1. I did market research and keyword research last night. Found some other niches along the way.
  2. I signed up for my EPN account. EBay had some good high ticket items.
  3. Got my buddy to start a header graphic for the site (should be done by Sunday). I want it to look good as well as make a buck ;)
  4. Downloaded WP
  5. Got rss feeds into my rss reader from blogs, news, etc for content for the site.
day 2 (tomorrow night 5/23, I got a date with the wife tonight :D )
  1. upload wp
  2. get an ebay pluging for WP and install. If anyone knows of a decent one to use with EPN, please let me know.
  3. sign up with neverblueads , copeac
  4. Look for other affiliate possibilities
  5. start putting up content
