Matt >> I just noticed your question from above about the directories and now you are in a buying mindset because nobody answered. I say what I do below as an informed webmaster as I have done submissions (manually & paid) and own a directory.

I would suggest against it for 2 reasons.
1> directory submissions should be a good compliment to a link building campaign, not a replacement for one. They really are not that effective for a site that was just launched.
2> by the time the links get approved and indexed, it will be after the 30 days of this noob event.

If you want to do directories, I suggest getting a deal where 25+ links go to 4 different target urls. Build hubpages, squidoo, etc pages that link to your site and get the directory links pointed there.

This helps you out because the free pages get all the link power (not much) that 25 directory links give to it. It then gives some "honda accord" content and passes links to your multiple deeper pages in the site. This would work MUCH BETTER than 100 crappy links pointing to 1 page with the same anchor text ... that smells of spam.

If anyone participating in this thread wants a link in a directory, PM me and I'll give you a free featured one. But don't expect too much from it :]

About your site ....

- Work on your title tags. Remember they are the name of your page and the <H1> text. Across your site they really need to do a better job containing your keywords.

- Work related keywords into your body for both similar but not exact search phrases and the LSI factor. For instance your "least expensive hybrid" article should contain long-tailed keywords related to a main word.

HTML:
Main Keyword: Honda Hybrid

Complimentary keywords: honda hybrid car, honda hybrid civic, honda hybrid canada, honda hybrid prices, honda hybrid sedan, honda hybrid batteries, honda hybrid models, honda hybrid auto, honda hybrid autos, honda hybrid announcement

Those keywords above were scraped from google suggest which just places the most popularly typed next word after "honda hybrid". I built that tool the other day that will does this for you, it's built for a programmer but humans could use it too.

As for your main keyword phrase ...

HTML:
Main Keyword: Honda Accord

Complimentary keywords: honda accord 2008,honda accord coupe, honda accord wiki, honda accord hybrid vehicles, honda accord models, honda accord colors, honda accord canada, honda accord uk,honda accord wikipedia, honda accord invoice

GREAT JOB on the "Make Model Year Part" section on your site. Drop a paragraph above the ebay links talking about car repair, car parts, etc with the "Year Make Model" strategically placed throughout. You might get some searches for "1996 honda accord camber kit" if you play your cards right. Fix title tags here too.

Any thoughts welcome please. My 1st thought was a database/directory for this domain, just for the volume of pages, not sure about it now though. Being a financial geared name it is pretty competitive, but I have found some long tails with low searches. Being financial related could also branch off and do different sub-domains: bank loans, home loans, car loans, credit cards, financial aid, student loans, refi and so on, What say you?

You, my friend, chose a very difficult niche to jump into. I'm not sure really what direction to point you into. If you are shooting for organic results, you are going to have a ton of competition. For a directory / DB site I would point you out here, but you've got a long way to go to fill in the blanks if you want every branch in the directory.

Since this is WF, I might suggest some PPC. Use those subdomains you were talking about and make some landing pages. I'm sure someone could point you in the direction of a $100 yahoo or MSN voucher (MSN would be good for finance related ... I think). Should be an easy way to make the $1 required to keep the domain.

You wouldn't have to pay much to get started ($30 for Yahoo) & I'm sure that the guys here can help with the brainstorming for keywords to bid on.

OK, after much thought about what to do about that Kontera trademark I have decided the following. I'm going to build the slick little script on another domain and just avoid any legal shit alltogether.

What to do with ContentLinks.org - Links & Content meta-search engine? Well I still want to play ball here so I pumped out a quick meta-search engine on the domain and will use it down the road to push some link juice to the script. Perhaps I can just rank well for the phrase "content links" and never worry about the trademark.

Steps I took to build the site:
1. wrote the script. This script consists of 4 parts
  • XML search results are scraped from 2 search engines on each page load, reordered & then delivered to the screen
  • scrape some recent blogs on the search phrase for fresh content
  • scrape google suggest for "Related Searches" available for each search term
  • Drops adsense up top with a header of "Sponsored Results"
2. Entered the words "content" and "links" into the google adwords tool. Each word returned 150 of the most popular searches related to that word. I downloaded the csv, combined the 2 & sorted by cpc. I took those words that I just got and seeded the site with them (see links on front page).

Thanks to the .htaccess rewrite and an sql backend, every page is static (location) and totally indexable by google, yahoo, etc. The end result of this little site will be a fully automated, 300-400 page site that's really nothing more than a big scraper site that was given some words to work with.

Now to get some pages indexed ...

Hey - any thoughts on using a scraper for adding pages to glitter grafix?

Im thinking I need to cut down on the time spent building pages and increase volume.

After I have a good number of pages i can tweek and submit to SE

Any Thoughts?

Cheers

Dave

Sit down and work.

Seriously.

Right now, you have 3 frigging pages.
You need content? No shit, sherlock!

Make a template - I mean build the HTML you need around the content.
Make it clean and nice, put a BIIIG comment where you need to put your content - something like

<!-- CONTENT GOES HEEERE -->

Then, get content.

Enter the content into your template.. done.

You can easily do 10 pages + a day.

So if you work for one week, you will have 70+ pages

Cheers Emp,

Needed that kick up the ass - struggling to find the motivation to write about glittery grafix - its harder than it sounds!

And yes my sites colour scheme is suited to the Myspace audience but its giving me a bloody sore head looking at it!!

I'll keep slogging on - dont think im close to pulling $1 yet!

Arrrrgh!!

CCLIND, I just read your PM. I think the problem you are having with the WP getting connected to your DB might be a simple thing.

I'm posting a generalized solution here for everyone to see because I'm pretty sure more than one person might have this problem. It's regarding cPanel and the MySQL portion of the app.

When you get an account on cPanel your username is also the account name. They way cPanel handles everything else is based on that, even the databases. Here's an example.

Say my username for cPanel is: accordman

Say I create a DB named: wordpress
Then I create a user named: admin (and add it to the db).

Here is what the credentials would look like for the username and db name.

db name: accordman_wordpress
db username: accordman_admin

Always let it default to 'localhost' for the hostname
Password doesn't get the prefix.

There you go, hope that helps.

Matt

Ok, so I've been working on content for Automatic Monster

Over the next 10 days I'll be posting the lyrics for a song of theirs, including a way to listen and purchase a $.99 mp3 from amazon. I know 4% of $.99 is nothing, so I'm also going to try and push physical products, such as their CD. Would it be worth it trying to find a ringtone program? (I know crowded market...not a good place for a newbie like myself...)

I'm working on some better content, but I'm about to head on vacation for the next four days, so hopefully a few automatic lyric posts won't hurt anything.

Thoughts?

CCLIND, you have a blog and a PM now. :) Let me know if you need anything else. I would have had it completed sooner but my boss walked up to talk to me while I was working on it! hahahaha

Anyone else need help? Let me know.

To everyone, if you have claimed a domain and have not done anything with it within 3 days, or participated in this thread I will delete your hosting account and release the domain to someone that really wants it. I'm not trying to be a hard ass, just want to be fair to everyone.

Don't give up on me yet Mike! I'll admit to being a bit lazy due to just not knowing what to do, but now I'm saying 'fuck it' and will either pay for an LP or try my efforts with Wordpress and just pick an offer and roll with it. Will post progress (or lack of).

No sweat. If you upload a custom template, you'll have to change permissions on the included PHP files to be 'writeable' by WP. I think 755 on those files will suffice. Just a little FYI.

Thanks,
Matt

Nope, you don't HAVE to give permission.

Only thing that will happen is that you won't be able to use the online editor.
And even then, WP will let you know all nicety-like.

::emp::

The only reason I suggested it was so folks who may not know much about servers and wordpress and file uploads could use the built in functionality of the app.

Guys, changing those permissions is completely optional. If you want to use them and WP is giving you errors and you are having trouble setting the permissions, shoot me a PM.

Narsticle: I reformatted the title tags and the H1 tags in the posts. I'll be adding some content to the tops of each page real soon. Also, I cleaned up the page links on the front to show only the generations (but describe the years involved) which take you to the page to select the year models. Also, long, descriptive, anchor text in those. I didn't want uses scrolling most of my pages if I can help it.

Everyone: Have a look, if you don't mind and let me know if I'm on the right track.
