No more excuses

Seems to be, kinda weird. Did everyone lose interest in this or are most of you just too busy to waste time on Wickedfire?

Anywho....

Glad to hear that your getting organic traffic already. That's great! Actually if you're getting $0.08 - 0.17 per click in that niche, you're doing well! ;)

Scale - start working social media sites (see the list on HybridSEM)
Buy some wicked cheap banner ads (there's a shit load on DP for sale)
Trade links with people.
etc.

Since the name of this thread is no excuses I wont present any.

Suffice it to say I'm still very interested and hoping to fly under the radar for a few more days.

I've learned A LOT just from following this thread. Thanks for the great info. And amazing how much you can learn from failed sites.

Would be interested in a Round 2 of this contest.

Alright, I'm going to change the direction of editorialize. Haven't had much luck with it now which is to be expected. Not sure what I'm going to do, maybe a phpBay site selling magazines? Yea, I'll do that.

cheers Mike

In terms of the banners you mention - what approach do you think I should take with this? Run them as cpm banners with site placements?

Dave

Round Two will be coming in about a month or so (prolly)

JamesH - are you sure? I think you have a solid offer there, did you try offering a free test to a senior member on both sites? Like I said before, most people are pussies and won't jump on something until they know someone else has used it and liked it.

mediastar100 - Best I've found is a flat rate on high traffic sites. You can get banners on sites getting over 250,000 pageviews per month for dirt cheap. I've seen them going as little as $10 - $20. Text links even cheaper.

11 days left. Who's made money so far?

Anyone want to keep their domains? If not, most of them expire in 60 days or less, and I'm not renewing them. If you do, it's $10 and you get the domain and another year added to it. So, if you do the math, I end up losing about $3 - 4 per domain. If they expire, I lost $7 - 8 per domain. In other words, don't think I'm trying to just sell domains here and make a ton of money. It ain't happenin' :D

I'm still here. Still busy with work but google is actually sending me a handful of visitors on some key phrases I didn't consider. I'm now working to expand on those. At least Google sees the site and all that other stuff.

Mine made a little money and I'm planning to keep mine. If you have domains from this group that folks don't want to buy, I saw a couple of others that I wouldn't mind getting. Just let me know when this is all said and done. You hear it from me first. (I'm calling first dibs on any domains folks might not want when this is all done).

Thanks so much Mike. You fuckin' rock!

Matt

Been gone for a bit .. time for an update.

My domain (contentlinks.org) is just a clusterfuck of confusion at this point. I initially was going to sell a script via the site and backed off because of TM issues ... I'll open shop elsewhere for that script.

About 10 days ago I threw up a meta search engine and targeted 2-5 word, decent paying phrases that have to do with "content" and "links". I've had exactly 2 natural visitors heading to the site from Gg. 102 indexed pages at the current moment, I'm ok with that level after only 10 days.

1 HUGE flaw in my plan ::: Because my eye was on the "content links" script, I wanted to keep the context of this site themed around those words. Hopefully it will be a good link to the resting place of my script in the future. Well here's the flaw ...

Who searches for "content" and "links" related phrases? webmasters.
Who clicks on ads? non-webmasters

So in order to make a buck off this (via adsense or any other avenue) I have to rely on volume, which I just don't have. I personally don't think I have a snowball's chance in hell to make a buck in 10 days ... how's that for confidence.

I'd still like to transfer the domain over & pay for it as it's part of my long term plans, but what I have done here was just foolhearted and poorly planned out.

The whole meta-search engine site is a great development platform and I've made decent coinage in the past with some niches. Content & Links are just bad niches for making money.

I = fail (for this anyways)

The good news is that traditionally about 1/2 of my sites either fail or never get launched so I'm on par with history :]

The thread ain't dead. We're busy.... ;) I'll be sending you the 10 bucks Mike. I've grown attached to my lil website...she's purty.... got some Dita pics up. Fantasy Pinup Art I'll put up some boob shots for WF access only ;) I've made a whole $1.02 in adsense that's ok, I'm patient. I've gotten 2 clicks on EPN from 47 impressions. Allposters has gotten 12 uniques since my last post. All in all a good start. It's all just a numbers game at this point. In 3 days I made about a buck. It may not seem like much, but it's something I can build on. Learn what the customer wants, and give it to them. I'll take 1000 sites just like this doing $10 a month any day over 1 that has to deal with...customers....shiver..... later guys ~Atom

Yummy Dita Von Teese! I've been a fan of hers for a long time. Never bothered getting a sub to her site though...

BTW, hope you don't mind I hotlinked to your image ;)

Yeah, at this point, I'm dropping the requirement that you have to have made money to buy the domain. So, if anyone wants their domain, it's yours. Just PM me for the PayPal info.

Guys, I got to say, I am really very happy to see the participation that has happened here and the sites that were built. I hope that you all have learned some things. I know I did. This is why I hang with n00bs a lot. Newbies tend to be less pretentious and more willing to work together.

So, here's the question: Should we do another "No excuses" thread when this one ends in about 10 days? Or just keep this one rolling?

so how is everyone doing???

I didn't participate in the offer but big props to Mike for bringing this offer to the table!

I just hope everyone took full advantage and made the best out of it!

It'd be great to see it offered again!! :)

I vote yes

another no excuse thread would be great - if it gets people doing instead of hoe humming.

thread is great idea - thanks for being as generous as you were.

still trying to figure out how to drive enough traffic to make it work without resorting to PPC.

Lots of competition with forex.

I VoTE YES

I would most certainly be interested but i have a house to build during next month so not much time to spare , could i suggest another no excuses in a month or so.

Great, I learnt a lot from this first "No Excuses" thread.

Thanks to SEO_Mike for the opportunity and help.

I don't think I will get anything from my site but it was a good learning experience. Seeing others sites have also helped give me motivation and spurred other ideas.

I vote my hand for the next one too.

Ok guys, as we wind down our little experiment, I would like to get some analysis of a few things from Google Analytics.

It looks like I'm getting a 'tad' of organic traffic from the search engines. Under keywords I've got several phrases. My question is this: Should I be concentrating on those as some of my 'long tails' as they are getting the traffic? Should I do more research on those and come up with some variations of those? Here are my keywords as listed in Google. If I'm barking up the wrong tree, let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Keywords:
2009 honda accords
7th generation accords
history on honda hybrids
honda accord 2002 part in japan
honda accord parts 1991
honda accords parts for 1998-2002 models
honda production numbers

Also, I vote for keeping it rolling but opening it up to some other members if someone has the domains. Perhaps, let them buy a domain then join the project. I can host a few folks if need be. Seriously. I've got the space.

It's fun to watch 'children grow' too. I have learned a lot but think I have much more in the light of this thread to learn yet. In that, I don't think 30 days is enough. I've made about 5 bucks. I think I'm on the cusp of being able to generate a small amount of continuous money from the site (then scale it to many other sites with what I've learned so far).

Again, keep it rolling, open it up to new participants (say 10 at a time or more), if folks don't participate after getting started, cut them quickly so others can 'play'. :)

I'll help any way that I can.

Thanks Mike and the rest,
Matt

An update from me. This thread has really got my momentum going. Although I haven't done enough with santaradar.net (still not got it listed), I've spent the week coding up a landing page "poll" system and launching a topical PPC campaign -> Poll -> Email zip submit, wired up to Tracking202 for analytics. Result - got 120 clicks so far, and at or above break-even (maybe a profit of $1). Things should improve after I've trimmed my keyword list a little.

I'll get back to looking at the SEO on the site tomorrow :)

Great going, amateursurgeon.

@mattgatten

Yes, looking at keywords is always a good idea. Research around them and see if you want to add a page or two to your site.
