I have about 30 minutes to devote to answering some questions, since it looked like Friday went well i figured i would give it another shot.

Ask me anything related to your affiliate marketing campaigns. I will try to help you increase your revenue. Dont ask me technical questions, thats like asking Jon how to bench press 200lbs, there wont be an answer

1) How do you successfully market zip/email submit offers? Straight to the offer or do you set up your own landing page? Do you try to "trick" the user into enterting his data ("enter you zip to see if you are eligibile"?). Or do you just create a landing page talking up the product and then letting them know they can get it if the enter their data? Or is there some other way I didn't think about yet?

2) What would be an easy offer to promote? I'm currently doing very well with Tax offers, but those would probably convert at well over 10% even if I insulted the customer and told them not to signup. I would also like to start something going that is not seasonal and get my feet wet with that.

Thanks!

What are some good campaigns that teens will love that are not ringtones (ive tried and failed), educational loans, or online schools?

Are affiliate networks (cj) or individual affiliate programs better? does it even matter, or should one just be looking the actual product and the commission?

Zip/email submit offers work well in email, if you are using them for search the best thing to do is to build a landing page then wrap the content around the offer. I have posted many times before to use current events to sell the email submit offer. For example. use Britney spears, put a pic of her with hair and without and make people vote for which is a better look and enter to win a (insert offer here)

You can also try to bid on terms related to the offer if they are cheap enough. Also for those who run ringtones, you might want to send the crap carriers such as virgin to an email submit for a free iphone or something cell phone related. You can also bid on people or companies. For example we have a Jet Blue email submit offer, with the news about Jet Blue leaving people on the tarmac at JFK you can easily bid for the term and put an ad together saying Win a Jet blue flight...bla bla bla. your copy is what is important. You need to learn how to ride the fine line between good sales copy and lying.

Non seasonal offers are tough since they have a lot of competition. Ringtones are still good to get in to. Many people on this board have just started to promote ringtones and are profiting. You can also look to run brand name offers such as Blockbuster, or online EDU offers like ITT or university of phoenix. With their brand equity they will usually convert better.

Teens like anything free. Think back to your teens. Did you have money to buy things? Give them money and free stuff. Payday loans, credit cards, free gift cards, free spring break trips, etc... Spring break is coming soon. check out this Google Trends: spring break

Also i know when i was a kid i wanted a car but had no money so maybe auto loan offers would be good to run to teens.

On PPC...straight to the offer (if allowed) or to a landing page.

I know this ones been beat to death but had to ask.

It does matter. Forget payout its a smoke and mirror move by some networks, they pay you high but track half the conversions. Test the same offer across multiple affiliate networks see which one yields the best for you. You might find one network who pays $1 for an offer and one who pays $2 for the same offer, on the surface youll go with the $2 one but in reality its probably the $1 one that is tracking better and in reality yielding better results.

Test offers, test affiliate networks, TEST TEST TEST TEST, then Test again.

Does copeac do that on offers?

Again, had to ask. :p

Both. Depends on the offer and the search engine. Google you're better off with a landing page due to QS. MSN you can get away with direct to the offer. But realize most offers are designed for email not search which is why your own landing page is important.

No we dont do it, its actually a stupid move as it only draws in the novice affiliate the more experienced guys know not to look at payout and look at performance, but hey test it yourself, or ask people on the forum. We take tracking very seriously i personally audit the offers each month to ensure the tracking on each offer is up to par.

I know, I just wanted to hear it from you. :)

Why do offers expire?

Either the advertiser ran out of money, the network had the offer pulled from them by the advertiser for poor quality, or the advertiser might not have paid their bills. That is the main reasons why an offer gets pulled.

Other reasons might be that they were seasonal, they don't convert anymore, or the landing pages changed.

Without naming actual entities, are you aware of networks that grossly manipulate tracking stats? In these cases, do you think it is the advertiser, the affiliate network, or possibly both that are cooking the numbers?

That's a really sweet and difficult question to ask.. right on.

Yes i am aware of some as many affiliates have expressed this issue to me about others. I would guess that in most cases its the network trying to turn a profit. The economics of an affiliate network are not very attractive unless you can do it in large volume.

If a network pays out 80% to the affiliate that leaves 20% for them to cover costs. Costs such as payroll, office space, technology costs, phones, etc.. it leaves very little let over for someone who does lets say 500K a month. (20% is 100K)

Now imagine those networks who claim to pay out 100% of what they get, why would they give out 100%? Would you do something for free? What about a 95% payout?

How much do you spend on PPC for a new niche / product to test if it converts?

I will usually set my daily limit to $300 and let it run a few days if even at a loss. Once it turns a profit i open it up to as much as i can spend, even if the profit margin diminishes as long as its still profitable.

So you put the offer in a frame and then do all the lets-please-the-quality-score-gods (and good sales copy) stuff around it? Would you have to ask permission from your affiliate network to frame it, if this is the case?
