Okay, so I found a nice idea....

I'm living in a decently large college town, right by campus with a student body of about 25,000. What I'm looking at is being an affiliate for an online discount textbook store and putting up flyers around this campus and the local community college campus to get initial traffic. (Can't take credit for the idea, I believe I found it right here) Anyway, I need to think of how I want to set up my landing page. Should it be content based or just a pitch page for the site itself? I'd like for my page to be as legitimate as possible. Any recommendations from the wise ones here at WF?

When I'm buying textbooks, usually I only have 2 things in mind. First it needs to be cheaper than what's available at the bookstore (almost always is), preferably used, and I'd like to know how long it's going to take to get to me.

I just paid $400 for textbooks from the bookstore, and I still need a handful more that aren't available (because the semester started 3 weeks ago). Being so late, none of the #s I called on the flyers had any books left.

A good way to make some change would be to buy the textbooks yourself for damn cheap, for each class, and post flyers with your number so it looks more personal. Then sell the individual books to each person for a little less than the price at the book store. Lots of work but more people would buy because of the convenience.

I actually gave someone exactly this advice on AIM a few months back. Fucker was always stating "niches are too small, I wanna go BIIIG", when I told him to go local.

I still believe it is a good idea.

Try finding the EXACT textbooks that are going to be used.

Make the page local, localized, the localizidestest.

Make pages with the name of the class, the name of the prof and the textbooks.

Repeat before start of each semester (or do you guys have trimesters?)

Cost of the textbook, shipping rate and time it takes to receive it. I usually order all my textbooks from Amazon because they are required to send the item within two days after my purchase (although some don't follow this) and you can get the textbooks much cheaper than purchasing them from the local book store.

I'd say have a bit of both, honestly.

Make the main page the pitch, but have a little tab for the community section.
I remember being a uni student, I LOVED to waste time. So give them a little time waster on the site. A blog with some campus happenings, a forum that uses the facebook account bridge API (what's it called again, someone?), some small flash games, etc., and put some offers on there too.

Before you know it, it'll end up having a life of its own, and the books will be the side thing.
