His public front image is probably sucky, but if you know him 1-1 / behind the scenes he is a cool and seriously clever guy.
Bad publicity is easier to get than good publicity. Then I suppose it's easier to change that view when all eyes are on you.

There are tons of cool and clever guys in this industry and they don't to act like a toolbox to get all eyes on them. I would love to hear one advantage to him becoming popular (even though hated) on internet forums in the affiliate marketing community. I can't think of a single one. I don't know the guy or give two shits about what he does and where but I just can't see how anyone can say it's a smart move, at the very best it would have no effect at all on him or his business.
