Hi all,
I'm looking for a content writer to help take the load off writing product descriptions for my site.

Does anyone have any good advice on how to score someone who produces quality (not Engrish) work?

A good technique is to find 5 different writers from BST section and have each one write one article on your topic. This will show you who can write the best on your niche.

Also your eyes are the ideal way to score someone who produces quality (not Engrish) work.
 
Search the BST sections, read the customer reviews, choose the one that you think will be best.

You can try finding writers on fiverr, but becareful because sometimes writers jump on there and once everyone figures out they are a good writer they get swamped with work and poor writing follows
 
Try to score some review copies from 5 different writers with a good reputation on BST before you dish out any money. Then see which one will work better for targeting your audience and there you go!
 
Getting writing samples is the best way to judge the quality of work a writer generates. Once you get the content, read it out loud. I've discovered when I read my work out loud instead of silently, it's easier to catch mistakes.

The problem is that often your order goes to a team of writers (a lot of sellers of this kind in the section) and the result may be different each time, depending on who takes your job.
 
Best way to get quality content is to find someone passionate about the subject and pay them. I would check forums around the particular topic and see if you can find someone knowledgable.

QFT. If you come across some undiscovered talent, you'd better scoop em up before somebody else does!
 
Check out the BST section, or if your willing to work a littler harder to screen writers you can hire your own off a freelancing website.

Go on odesk, look for writers that match your bill, tell them to send you samples,


Easily differentiate between the crap and the good. Now tell all the good ones to do a 300 word article and you'll pay them half their rate.

You've now spent a small amount of money and probably found or close to finding your primary writer.
