I know there is debate about whether page rank really matters for google rankings, however, I have a blog that I sell advertising on and one of my regular advertisers just informed me that he won't be renewing his ads because my page rank dropped from 4 to 0.

My site has not dropped in the SERPS at all, but for some reason my PR has been dinged and I havent been able to get it back. I have no idea why and I've applied for reconsideration from google. This is a totally white hat content site.

I told the advertiser that page rank really doesnt mean anything these days, but no response. Any advice from the community?

But you sold advertisement based on PR 4 to begin with? Maybe next time you need to tell them about your site without mentioning PR.

PR does and does not matter. If you are talking about your position in the SERP's that is one thing, but if you are selling ad space or links most people are gonna look at your PR. Site owners tend to judge the link juice/quality of the ad placement by the PR of a site, simple as that.

Regarding your sudden drop in PR that could be equated to many things. What have you changed lately?
 
Who knows what happened. Google probably had an algorithmic change and your PR was filtered out for what could be a billion reasons. Just be glad your SERPS are performing the same.

PR is only one little piece of the puzzle when it comes to ranking, yet people tend to cling on it like it's the one-and-only thing, but they're mistaken.
 
PR doesnt matter to get ranking on google, but it does matter when u sell links. u will see many sites that rank higher with lower pr.
 
could it be this guy's links that dropped my PR?

I know that PR doesn't affect the SERP's, that's not what this thread is about. It's about selling ad space on a legit site that should not have been docked for PR for any reason that I can see.

I might as well post the site...in case anyone sees a PR red flag on there. Some of you guys have probably seen it already.

Ive gone through the same with a blog site of mine. Id say give it some time and reconsider with the search engine again. It should sort out (if its White hat)
 
It's common to get a PR4 or PR5 from the first update, you get happy sell some links to make some quick cash then in the next update PR drops down to 0 ! It's all common, don't worry and the next time you sell links make sure you add a rel="nofollow" and don't sell site wide links to stay away from Google's radar.

I had been building the site for over a year and have a lot of regular users who send in pictures and comment etc etc. Admittedly, I did sell a link awhile back for a good price, before I knew this was an issue to be honest. I have Adsense which is obviously just text link ads and I didn't realize Google frowned on putting up your own links, but now I know.

However, I have since taken down those sold links, but my PR hasn't recovered.

As far as "no follow" goes, I'm surprised someone would bother to buy a link if it was no followed, but Red Virus you've been at this longer than I so I'll take your word for it.
