Patents, Ladies and Gents, Patents

Seems like a power play to push that patent reform bill through.

Vringo won't see much of that money in the lifetime of anyone in that company (yes, they might get 8 digits, but no one is giving away 10 without a mega, never ending fight)

While publicly traded Vringo also has a "video ringtone" business, its financial statements describe its business as now being focused on patent assertion. The company has 28 full-time employees, has generated "no significant revenue to date," and had more than $10 million in legal expenses in 2012

seems legit.

Accepting those estimates, an extremely rough calculation suggests US AdWords revenue is somewhere in the range of $15 billion to $18 billion annually. If that's right, it would place the Vringo royalty win somewhere in the realm of $200 million to $250 million annually. The patents expire in 2016, and Google is liable from November 2012, which is the date final judgment was entered after the trial.

Vringo, Inc. collects money from patents, of which they have over 500 including applications. They cover telecom infrastructure, internet search, and mobile technologies. Vringo operates a global platform for the distribution of mobile social applications and services.[1]

Look for Google to shake down the organic SERPS to force websites into buying more Adwords to make up for that 1.36% loss. Its the only ethical move they can make.

Wow, that's crazy. The stock was only up 20% today though.

And Google just sold Motorola for $3 billion, when they paid like $13b. They held on to most of the patents, valuing the patents at $10 billion

They sold off Motorola's top box unit for $2B+ and sold the handset unit to Lenovo for a few more billion. They paid around $5B or so to acquire the patents.

Google is in BOSS mode.
