I checked one of my old paypal acocunts that was limited 7 months ago and when I withdrew money from it 2.5 weeks ago through a check it went fine. i was able to with draw the money. Now i check that account and see it was locked. the check was suposto come in 2 weeks and I still didnt get it. Does the locking of the account 'kill' the check? thats sucks if it did. I guess they stole my money. But it was only a couple hundred bucks though.

If they blocked the account before the check was processed, I doubt you will see it. PayPal sucks, they froze up thousands of dollars on me..... I dont fuck with E-bay or paypal anymore, bad bad news......

SEO_Mike use to work for them, he could probably give you a little more insight.

I checked my email and it says the check was recieved on Jan 29. i dunno only 200 bucks so not a huge deal but i'm amazed at the BS they can get away with. Im sure they have millions of dollars from frozen/locked accounts acruing interest for ebay.

im sure they do, Im still waiting for another service that can compair in popularity to launch.. As of now if I sell something online, I require an old fashioned payment, which allot of people dont dig, but fuck it, Id rather not sell a product or service than give my money to PP. "MO, Check, Cashiers Check!!!!!!"

"Locked" is their way of killing the account, but not closing it. That way any financials can not be used on a new account. You'll still get your check if one was sent out, the status of the account has nothing to do with that.

I'm not sure why, but PayPal's checks take forever to reach their destination. Maybe they have something worked out with the post office, so they can get more float out of you money. Just kidding. ;)

I personally use the direct deposit method to get money from PayPal but in the last year i find that i am alot less trusting of PayPal because of their account Locking. They don't have to answer to anyone and because there aren't physical locations to go complain its proving to be less and less trustworthy as a source of payment processing. Just my opinion

They always side in favor of the buyer and they freeze accounts.

Not true. Ask buyers "they always side with the sellers". In reality, the seller actually has the edge in a normal dispute. Particularly if you are doing more than $1000 a month through PayPal. Then your account is handled by a different department: Business Support ($1000 - $20,000) Merchant Support ($20,000 - $400,000) and Enterprise ($400,000 +). Those departments are there to help the sellers, and in disputes they will give the seller more leeway than the buyer. That's not official, but it's the way they work.

Chargebacks are different. Since PayPal isn't a bank, and the account is not a true merchant account, they handle chargebacks as "we lost our money, so you lose yours". There are a few cases where you will get your money back right away, but those are few and far between. In most cases, unless the buyer is honest and cancels the chargeback, you're screwed. If the card they used was an American Express, you're screwed. Amex always sides with the cardholder and will not reverse a chargeback unless the card holder withdraws it in writing. Visa and Mastercard have an appeals process, and can sometimes be reversed.

All that being said, if you're business lives and dies by it's card processing, get a merchant account from a real bank. PayPal is good for some things, but can kill your business if they get a hair up their butts.

Cool. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from PayPal, they do have a good service, just keep a couple things in mind.

1. Seller Protection - is designed to help the seller keep their money, provided you adhere to some simple guidelines. This is where most people screw up and get pissed at PayPal.
  • Get tracking on every package. If the package is $250 or more, you have to get a signature.
  • Ship within 7 days of receiving the payment
  • Only ship to their "confirmed" address, if they buyer doesn't provide one and you ship the item, then they claim it didn't arrive: you lose the dispute
2. DO NOT violate their Acceptable Use Policy. They have zero tolerance for most AUP violations. So, if you are selling something other than beanie babies, double check to make sure it's okay. Some of the policies are not enforced much, like Academic Software, but if they decide that they need to get rid of you and you've violated that policy, then they have their reason.

I agree, PP sucks. I used to be pretty active at eBay and PayPal, but it seems that you can't hardly sell anything these days without getting phished accounts messing up your auction or some idiot with a US account wanting you to ship to Nigeria. I'll probably never use eBay / PP again.

Paypal run the most pathetic service on the planet and have twice locked over $10k in my account without any good reason. They ask you to submit info which they tend to lose then they transfer you to a call centre in India who don't know fuck all.

I once funded a account with a check and it took 45 days to clear and the centre was 100 miles away.

If you search the net you will see a bunch of legitimate traders who have been bankrupted by pay pal and there crap service.

Unless your running small amounts or can lose the money don't use it !

Wow! They haven't allowed account funding by checks - actual physical checks - in over 4 years! Unless you are overseas. In which case the call center is not where it gets processed. They have to send it to San Jose, CA for that to take place.

/edit/ sorry, just noticed you are in Glasgow. So, that makes sense why it took so long.

It seems though they screw over small sellers who do less volume. If your procesing 40K a month in orders you could probably sell cocaine and terrorist flight manuels and get away with it but if your selling just a few hundred bucks a month and you violate just a single statement of the AUP BAM your account it locked and your fucked.

I called paypal about the check and they told me the check was cancelled due to some issue..i dunno

The person I spoke to on the phone said the check tried to go out but on Feb 1st the account got locked and the check sending process ceased.
Therefore I got nothing. He then send a notice to the paypal account review team or whatever they are called and they would get back to me in 24-48 hours with the decission as to my money.

Im sure I wont get sqat. Thats how it alwasy goes with paypal. Worthless SOBs. Only $200 though but still pissed off cause I could get alot for $200. New sunglasses, a TV, Xbox.
