This is kind of a stupid question, but is there any assurance that you will keep these sites up? Is there at least advertising on these sites? I don't want to pay 5 bucks, see a boost and then see a sudden drop a few months later because you let your domains expire etc.

It's not a stupid question. As you may know, I offer blog posting services here and on other places, am doing this for the last 4 years. So I have all the interest to keep these blogs up for a long time.
