Hi All,
I wanted to take a minute to post about an inquiry that I received in an e-mail earlier today. One of my customers asked me if I use SpyFU or any other 3rd party tools out there other then Adwords to evaluate the keywords I am sending.
First, I do not trust SpyFU or any other 3rd party tool out there. Adwords takes their information from themselves, and posts it. I do not see how SpyFU could get correct Adwords information, other then scraping the first two pages of Google to see if their are any advertisers for a specific keyword, which isn't an accurate way of evaluating keywords in my opinion.
The point of Adsense is not to show EXACT ads, its to show RELEVANT ads. When you use SpyFU or any other 3rd party tool, you are looking for your EXACT keyword. Micro Niche sites generally utilize long tail keywords. When you build a site, Adsense automatically matches your keywords (by either evaluating parts of your long tail keyword or some keywords that make up your long tail keyword and the content that you post) and matches RELEVANT ads to it.
I will give an example of why I do not use SpyFU or any other 3rd party tool other then adwords. If I were to give you a keyword such as "What is considered a good Credit Score" and you type it into SpyFU, you will get no results back. However, we obviously all know that "Credit Score" is a very good Keyword, and yields high CPC. When you build a website about "What is Considered a Good Credit Score" you will get ads related to "Credit Score" which in turn, could yield you good clicks, meaning money for you.
SpyFU doesn't have the ability to look in depth at related or relevant keywords, it only searches your EXACT keyword, which in this case, is a long tail keyword about credit scores.
The only tools I utilize are the Google Adwords Keyword tool, the Google Search Trends tool, and Traffic Travis to monitor niche competition. One of the biggest factors I take into consideration is how well a webpage is optimized. I am living proof that you can beat out MAJOR competitors if you have strong on-page SEO and they have poor on-page SEO. I could care less about a domains PR, domain age, etc... I have literally beat out major competitors such as food.com, allrecipe.com, etc... on just one of my websites, and I have a bunch of websites that have beat out other major competitors because my on-page SEO and off-page SEO is much better then theirs, and I utilize easy to rank keywords, which all the keywords I sell are easy to rank.
I personally build a lot of sites for myself with keywords that have similar statistics to the ones I sell. There is a reason why I make as much money as I do on Adsense; because I know what I am doing.
I would NEVER sell a keyword that I didn't think was going to make money, that is just plain wrong. I personally verify all of my keywords twice, to make sure that everyone is getting high quality keywords... Bottom Line, if I don't think it could be monetized, I wouldn't sell it to you!
Just wanted to let everyone have a better understanding, if they weren't familiar with the way my keywords are.
Thank you all for your continued support and business, and I hope to work with each one of you all soon!
Take care, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season!
