So I have been working my ass off for this bitch, I built a complete e-commerce solution for her for very reasonable price, I made almost every update and change on the site she ever wanted and now she is just ungrateful arrogant bitch. She suddenly starts to complain that the site gets too little traffic, too little orders, she wants to be #1 for term "perfumes" on search engines, LOL. She's got to be fucking joking. I am so fucking pissed off right now. Our previous conversation was always nice, and now suddenly this. The good thing is that I have a contract which clearly states that I have done everything I was supposed to. I could just tell her to STFU and go away with it... but fuck, why should it end this way?

Sorry just had to vent if off.....
*waiting for whaaaambulance pictures*

You'll have those kind of people in any business - especially in this industry. Best you can do is just explain to her why her demands are impossible. If the contract was fulfilled and you got paid... tell her politely to fuck off if she's going to act like that.

This is why I don't do client work anymore... I was spending way too much time explaining to customers SEO basics and what it would take to rank for something like perfume.

Customers expect the world and call with changes, questions, and expect you to do that shit for free.

It does not help when they get a cold call from Scam SEO firms promising the world for $99.99

Its just more profitable to spend that time working on my own sites... fuck the 'needy' clients.

Why not post the URL and let's see what creative things we can get her site to rank for?

Yeah, I don't do much client work any more unless it is very cut and dried. Rather than build websites for companies I would just rather offer to sell them leads, and then build up my own domains I can keep even if the relationship goes sour. Clients want you to build a website, and they want to get it done for as little as possible, and then they wonder why they aren't #1 for "stinky pickles".

When you try to explain that building a site is one thing, and then doing the things it takes to get ranking is a whole other thing, eyes glaze over.

My best advice is to figure out how much you need to get paid for a project, double it, ask for the half of the doubled figure up front. Often that's all you get. Then if they do come through with the rest you might be nice and do some SE work too.

Does she have analytics setup and working with her adwords properly? If so, you should work with her to sort out where her good traffic is coming from, and try to build up your relationship from there. Every time a client complains about traffic and sales volume, you should be thinking "Sweet, more opportunity for business!" not "You're a bitch!"

She might have used the wrong tone, but odds are she really just wants more business, not that she thinks you're specifically the one to blame. Try talking to her next week and see if you can come up with a "Traffic improvement plan" that you can manage for her for more cash.

Just remember, underpromise and overdeliver.

Charge for it.

Only way to cope with stuff like this: Put a premium price tag on it.

Customers suck. They expect you to take a huge stake in the business industry they like, they picked, and do work to guarantee their success at THEIR budget.

Fuck em. I have told many people that I am not interested in working with them before we even talk money or anything. They are always a little surprised. I could tell they really wanted to fight me over money. Screw em, if I want a stake in their industry I will just do a site in their industry.

IMHO, taking clients at all requires charging prices just high enough to scare 99% of them away. I don't have time nor can I afford to work for people when I can do the same things on my own and make so much more money. Unless a client has a special expertise or exclusive rights to a specific niche or industry and willing to spend $$$, I'd rather turn them down and then defeat them or just spend more time on my completely unrelated shit or spend time with my family.

I do the shit that I do because I don't want to deal with people. I'd rather take on all the responsibility all the reward ( or loss) and none of the bullshit. Shit I dont even have time to do 10% of my own ideas, even when outsourcing everything that makes sense.
