Polls and Email submits...is it still supposed to work?

I'm separating this from my diary thread so that I can get a bit more exposure here...so I was advised that with my existing budget I should start doing email submits instead before going into any rebill stuff again.

I am playing around with polls revolving around celebrities / current events, then to email submit etc. But so far I simply didn't have any success. Does anyone know whether this is still supposed to be a feasible method?

I created around 5 or 6 polls and put an email submit behind them and then promoted the poll pages on various forums that were relevant to the poll topic - I didn't want to launch some PPC stuff for them before getting an idea of my potential CTR. Though in the end I did put up a PPC campaign for a single poll up on Content - good Adwords stats, around 100 clicks, maybe 10 clickthroughs and zero conversions.

So basically my CTR is horrid - for all the polls I did. Averaging 10-15%.

People just have to click yes or no for god's sake! Is it because forum people are generally more wary and instantly see the marketing in all of it - meaning that PPC traffic would turn out entirely different (though it didn't for me yet)?

Maybe it's the way my polls look? Here's a sample one: Was Michael Jackson Murdered?

Or is it because my "prize" is too untargeted for my traffic? But still, why don't people bother enough to just click 'Yes' or 'No' - I'd understand if they were bailing at the offer page, but not on my LP...

And yes, I'm aware of the whole scrubbing/shaving issue of course. But I always thought I would be scrubbed only once I am *getting* some decent conversions.

Any thoughts?

In Zip/Email submits it is generally a large scale numbers game. What you need to do is provide more stats for people to answer your question. Your CTR is 10-15% from the landing page to the front page of the submit? How many people fill out the submit after that? How many clicks have you gotten on your forum link?

E-mail/Zip submits are more a pain than anything these days..

Also if your running polls, they are notorious for low quality traffic which leads to higher scrub rates..

And Google will slap your pants off too :o

I usually get 200-350 clicks from the free traffic. Clickthroughs are then around 20-50. And actual conversions...maybe 2 or 3.
