Possible To Get Ranked #1 On A Redirect?

I have this keyword that gets good traffic and low competition. And the domain is available. And all I want to do is redirect the domain to the merchant's site.

Will that kill me with Google? Or do I have to make a bunch of pages nobody except Google will ever see, just to satisfy their algorithm? Is it possible to rank #1 with a redirecting domain?

In short, yes you can rank with a redirect.

I wouldn't though. Just make a few killer landing pages with a high CTR to the merchant.
