I was trying to figure out a checklist of things needed to be done. Of course I have already done sitemap, google webmaster tool, analytics, and adding myself to the big directories such as yahoo, yelp, bing, and etc. I think PR0-PR4 is a realistic goal to google's next PR update.

I am thinking about not going the massive backlink route and try to get about 500 PR5-8 one way links, pyramids, and social bookmarks. I already have 50 dofollow edu backlinks. I am also getting web2.0 pyramid link build. Is this a proper route to take to reach my goal?

I am looking at a long term goal for first page local listing placement in google. I don't have any adsense or any money makers in mind for my new site. My keywords are not very competitive at all. The top 3 are all PR2.

PR4 isn't really that tough to get. Get a PR5 link and a bunch of PR3-4 links and you should be able to go to pr4. I had one of my sites back in the day go from NA-4. On a sidenote you should care more about rankings then the pagerank. Obviously pagerank means you have some link power but the right kind of linking gets your rankings up.

I think PR is extremely important to those who are doing paid blog posting and link exchanges -- sites which are owned by individuals who wants to earn money online. But, for sites that are selling products (companies, affiliate marketing sites), ranking is more important.

Well, you have done your job... now just wait for next PR update.
I really wonder, why people are still after this PR thing. I never bothered to check PR of my site. Its mere a metric which contributes nothing in improving your site's performance. Its better to focus on other metrics like ROI, traffic and SERP ranking.

Thanks guys for the replies and suggestions. I'll work on my SERP (I will be using the search function here and see if I can learn some tricks)
