Does anyone know of some free, cheap software for a PC which has the same features as the Photoshop Crop tool ie: where you can enter height and width (and maybe resolution) values and then crop the image to the size you entered by dragging the crop tool over an area?

I tried GIMP and I couldn't get the crop tool to work as it does in photoshop - looking at Paint.NET now

Thanks

Paint.NET is a nice little program with some huge potential, but the crop isn't what I am after.

Say I want to crop a section of a photo to 150px X 150px - in Photoshop, I would specify the height and width in the crop tool options box and draw out a crop area - now this crop area could be bigger or smaller than 150px X 150px and the original image 1600 X 300, but when I press crop - my final shape would be a 150px X 150px square

Anyone know of anything like this?

Ben - if Gimp can do this - can you tell me how?

Thanks

Yes I know what you mean and gimp can do this. Using the rectangle selection tool, go to the options and select "Fixed Aspect Ratio". Set your aspect ration to 150px X 150px, then select the part of the image you want and it will be the same aspect ratio no how big the selection.

Another way you can select an area of the size you need is this. Create a new document that is 150x150, fill it with green, yellow or whatever and copy it. Now go to your project image, paste it an and move it around where you want it. This will help you select the area you want to crop. If you can change the transparency of it all the better. In Photoshop command (ctrl) click the layer to select the 150x150 box.

OK - I've figured out with GIMP - thanks everyone

Its still not as easy as Photoshop - but I suppose that's what I'm used to and why they are charging the arse for it
