The folks at hostgator aren't as knowledgable/helpful as usual today. I must come to you guys.

I'm trying to back my site up properly. I went to wordpress, clicked "export", and downloaded all content.

I went to my cpanel and downloaded a MySQL Database Backup.

What else do I need to do? there's an option to backup my "Home Directory", do I need that? How do I backup my images? I've heard images don't get backed up by the 2 methods I've already done. Thanks!

In cPanel there is a Backup Wizard, that will back up everything for you. If you have WHM access you can even schedule backups and get them emailed to you. It's best to use the Backup Wizard, since it will backup your mysql database and your physical files (images, etc), as well as cron job settings, and all your emails.

All you did was create a backup of your mysql, and the exact same data in XML format (when you exported using wordpress), that's already in the mysql database. If you were to restore, you wouldn't have a backup of any of the images, custom plugins, scripts, etc.

Backup Wizard takes care of all that for you.

Maybe hostgator don't have Softaculous, but its another way to backup WP, store multiple versions and restore with one click.
