I dont know how much that benefits them. Bad marketing is not always useful.

Also, do you have any information on how much did they earn from that jazebel post with Jeffy and Rape van?

Julien wanted article about himself really bad and he got it.Lets see how far will this go.

Only one experience with this but it was a good one. I think as long as there are people on both sides of the argument the negative press can be great advertising. If both sides are trying to run you out of the country it might be different.

I ran a campaign a few years ago for the gay community in the Marmon church(the jokes write themselves I know) and the pushback and protest was almost violent in one instance and belligerently persistent for a month. BUT it got us as much publicity in one month as six months of active advertising did.

What started as an list building 'awareness' campaign turned into a gay marmon (pseudo)social network with a monthly pay model just because the cry to rally together and 'make it happen' despite the nay-sayers was catalyzed completely by people talking shit on them.

If there were no protests that cults flourishing gay social network wouldn't exist today....

1. Figure out who your customer is.
2. Cater solely to them. Fuck everyone else.
3. If controversy arrises, don't apologize. Stick by your customers and ideals and fuck everyone else.

Example:
Gay rights groups decided to protest Chick Fil A for being anti-gay. The CEO stuck to his stance since he believed in it and most of his customers did too. On the day that gay rights groups decided to boycott Chick Fil A, here's what happened:

There were lines around the block throughout the country. People came out to support Chick-Fil-A and standing up for what they believed in.

tl;dr do your own thing and stick to it; controversy can only be good

Also, damn these guys are good. Took a negative interview and turned it into a sales opportunity. "Yeah, don't just read the news article, spend $2,000 on our videos so that you can judge for yourself." :

^That book was a game changer for me.

Really helped me understand the online media landscape, and how easy it is to be a rage profiteer.

I read another Ryan Holiday article recently-

Rage Profiteers: How Bloggers Harness Our Anger For Their Own Gain | | Betabeat

Apparently a couple of guys decided to troll the feminist community and see if they could go viral, which they did because of angry feminists giving their page exposure.

These feminists and Social Justice Warriors don't really have anything else to do, they're essentially non-productive members of society who don't contribute anything but bitch about everything.
