I need input on the best way to go about this project. I have a group of professionals that I am going to consult them regarding setting up their own blogs. I want to avoid doing each one on their own domain so I got thinking their own sub-domain would be great.

Is there anything weird about Wordpress I should know before going forward with this? How does WP act with multiple installs on the same domain, pinging issues, htaccess problems, upgrading, themes, plugins etc, etc.

I don't want to do any type of multi-user blog because frankly they are going to pay more feeling like they have their own and I don't want them to feel like they are just serving as a content provider for someone else.

Wordpress MU is prolly what you want to look into, but I've never used it so i don't know if it is.... you should be able to set-up the accounts so they can be on their own domaisn and shit

If I'm reading this right, you are setting up blogs for people and they're going to pay you for it?

Why not reg individual domains for them, then? I'd personally pay more if I was getting my own domain vs just a subdomain. Domains are only $7.

But to answer your question: I have setup multiple individual WP installs on subdomains of a generic domain before and never had any problems. Each subdomain is treated as its own site.

I would normally try to set them up with their own domain however I'm making this somewhat exclusive in that each professional will have exclusive coverage of their particular area. For example, if I had a domain for building contractors then each site would be
plumbing.contractorblogsite.com
electrical.contractorblogsite.com
roofing.contractorblogsite.com
etc

The best way to do this is MU, but it is still not a problem to do the individual subdomains. I have had 20 wordpress subdomains with their own installations on one primary domain.
