I saw this site a while back and bookmarked it, came back to it recently to actually dig in and check it out:

Reactee - - Cause a Reaction (shirts that text back)

Depending on what you're promoting, could be a cool way to get the word out about a site or service. One thing is stickyness -- the shirt would be worn again and again and seen by a broad audience of people, and with the near ubiquity of texting the number of impulse readers of the marketing message could be massive.

While I think the idea is pretty cool.. Think about it.
If you saw someone wearing a shirt like that, would you ever in a million years text them? I just couldn't see many people doing it.

I could see this in colleges. High schools nowdays ban cell phones during school hours, so not sure how effective these shirts would be there.

Other than that, can't really see a lot of people texting.

To me it looks like one of those joke shirt you buy from tshirt hell, I wouldn't believe it enough to text it.

The market would have to be carefully selected. Certain grassroots charities and political organisations would almost certainly get massive response -- probably the leftier the better. Dating CPAs not so much, unless you could get a bunch of girls that look like the Snorg Tees models to wear them. Finding the right site, service or product would be a challenge, but in the right area -- college metros, heavy club areas etc. -- the Reactee concept could really work.

Speaking of college marketing, FreeHand Ads is an interesting service. I tried it with a student finance service I promoted and did very well.

Rates depend on the campaign -- you have to contact them to get a quote. I do not remember offhand the specific price we paid for our distribution, but it was pricey as hell (we did a nationwide with several specific parameters attached.) Conversions were good though, and we got lots of residual traffic well after the campaign had ended, so the paper was stuck on a bulletin board or had been photocopied with test answers on it or something.

This idea is VERY cool...

And I've alreayd thought of extension ideas for this already that will work outside of the USA and school hours.
Anyone here know what QRCodes are?
Well, you do now if you just followed that link.
Here's a blog post of them in action: David Harper’s Different Things » Blog Archive » Mainstream America is Ready for Bar Codes - Converging “Realspace” and “Mobilespace”

A LOT of the PDA style phones have software inbuilt that'll recognise these.
So why not get them to go straight to your website from their phone?
It'll work even better if you do get hot girls wearing your Tshirts, because then people are likely to take photos of them. And if the barcode is placed on the breasts, it's unlikely to warp too much... and let's face it, that's where most of the photos are going to be shot.

However, I'm not one to pitch an idea without being willing to try it.
I've got some iron on transfers at home. I'll see what I can do about mucking about with this idea this weekend.

QRCodes, shot code, semacode etc. have long been interests of mine ... never been able to figure out a way to monetise, but what a cool fucking concept.
