Register.com good to use? $2.50/yr

A guy I know pointed me to a deal that register.com is having right now that would allow me to register a domain for $2.50 per year. I don't plan on building up the website at all really, just flipping the domain name. Would this be a good deal for me? I haven't seen this hosting service talked about a lot on here.

I am completely new to Domaining and trying to make money online so I apologize if this is an obvious/dumb question.
