Registering .ca domains

I just found a nice .ca domain that I would like to register.

Now I do have a real Canadian address. BUT, CIRA requires an individual to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (or company). I am a US citizen and temporary resident in Canada so technically I would be breaking their rules.

The other approach could be to register a business up here to hold the domain. I'm not sure how difficult or expensive this is but I guess I would have to do that at some point if this things makes any $ since I do know I'm not living up here forever. (taxes, doctor shortages, joual wtf)

So, if I register a .ca domain is CIRA likely to check my residency status and take my domain name away?

Have you tried to just register it? .us domains are the same, you're supposed to be American or resident but I don't give a fuck, I bought them anyway and Jack Bauer hasn't busted down my door yet.

CIRA does check up pretty often, be careful if you are not really following their rules... they are very bitchy.

I'm pretty sure I could just register it and say I am a permanent resident but I if invest in developing the domain I'd like to keep it.
