Hi,
Im currently looking for ideas to generate some money, I am a webdesigner so im not a total noob, but still ...

Is it worth it to look for keywords with a certain amount of traffic in overture, that are not well exploited / low competition ...

I could create a page that is very well optimized for keywords that are at least 500 searches on overture... and that have low competition ( Although i kinda can "guess" when there is no hard competition, i dont have any specific ways of finding out how hard coming up on first page would be )

These pages would have anything from affiliate producs to simple with just adwords...

If this is a good idea, im sure lots of ppl are doing it, but are there anything left ?
How do you judge which keywords have enough traffic / low competition ?
I look at nb of search versus number of results on serp .

You can check the competition of a keyword by just going to Google and searching for it. Use tools (like this one) to check how many backlinks the top ranking sites have. Their age is also something you should consider. The more links they have and the longer the site has been up, means the harder it will be to take them down.

It's not a very unique idea. Lots of people try their hand at it and just end up doing a ton of leg work and don't get much results from it. Sure, you can charge on a membership basis type of thing, but when you consider how much work you'll be putting into it, even if it's automated, your niches and keywords can suck a fat one, and 500 searches is LOW.. very low. Almost unprofitable LOW, so it's probably not even worth it.

Back to the drawing board buddy.

Jon,

500 searches is actualy more than that, because there is more people searching on google. If you add them all up, i think it could be easy to get some steady but low monthly traffic, which after all, is better than nothing.
I mean, if i go after the bigger keywords there is alot of competition thats been there already, and it will be even much more work...

How do you know when you found something that is good ?

For example... I have found something that generates about 1700 search on overture ( 2x on google ) and yet has only 622,000 results... the #1 serp site is only pagerank 3, and IMHO has a very ugly site... I looked at the tools from adwords, and there is a consistent search trend volume increase in the past 12 months for these keywords....

Now for this particular case(keywords that i researched), i would need to setup a shop ( tons of shopping engine available free on the net that would be perfect ) , the problem would only come from finding a product supplier, which I found already( might be a better one tho), but... I still would have to order wholesale quantities (~ 1000$ to 2000$ investment) in order to be able to resell and make a good margin and have a decent product choice...

I dont know... when i look at it, It seems this could work... but damn thats a big investment to me... How can i judge if i should do it or not ?

To me its clear that my website would LOOK much nicer... I would have an affiliate program too... offer has many payment options has possible, and I would want to sell good quality items too of course.

Oh btw, the site which comes up first for my keywords right now has a .com domain, but doesnt even own the .net etc...
