screwing over affiliates?

Whats the deal with ringtone advertiers putting all this crap on the landing pages to kill conversions? it used to be much better. Dickheads.

I tried to run a cell-phone daily horoscope subscription offer, managed to get lots of cheap targeted clicks, but no conversions. I started thinking about the merchant's landing page, which screamed out "Horoscope Hoax" and then talked about how newspaper horoscopes are crap. No wonder no one is converting, insulting the potential customer like that.

When you say crap do you mean relevant things like "price" and the fact that they are signing up for a monthly commitment?

If that is what you mean, it is because if they didn't the cellular companies were going to cut them loose for deceptive trade practices. Crap runs down hill and the government was getting on the cell companies.

Perhaps some people will have to reconsider their skills as a marketer if they have to rely solely on deceiving the customer to make a sale.

If you are talking about something else, I am curious as to what other junk you mean.

it is a combination of putting monster sized "*" by the word 'free' or 'bonus' or 'complementary'. Some advertisers(I dont know how many) put the actual monthly price in large font above the fold.

yea I know the FTC doesnt like deceptive marketing but can't the advertiser raise the payout to maybe $24 per lead to compensate for this?

The carriers take a LARGE percentage of subscription fees, so there isn't so much left for providers to pay affiliates. I promote ringtones:

And still do fine with advertised price above the fold, etc.

They are not making more money per sign-up, so the answer obviously is no.

I am sure they could if they needed the sign-ups and it made financial sense, but that does not seem to be the position most of them find themselves in right now.

Yeah I've seen a few ringtone offers there were getting killed by splash pages, I don't understand why people do what they do but who knows maybe there just starting out we all had to start somewhere right?

Ok I've been hearing a lot of stuff on the wicked fire community about Ring Tones lately and how Jon was saying some guys contacted him because of an investigation into a ring tone scam of sorts.

If anyone else here is an affiliate of maxbounty or just ring tones in general then read this following clip I took from there site.

Please Note: US Law states that the words 'Free', 'Complimentary', 'Bonus' or anything of that sort cannot used to advertise Ringtone Channel. This includes search, newsletters, email, etc. No exceptions will be made.

This is just something I thought people should be aware of because of all the new ring tone talk here on wicked fire.
