Some of you people are so willing to listen to bullshit conspiracy theories it's pathetic. Life just isn't interesting enough for you so you have to make up some god damn mystery fantasies I guess.
Kubrik may have been trying to send a message to people that he thought the Apollo stuff was staged. But there's no fucking way Kubrik did the faking himself. He made a movie called "Dr Strangelove" in 1964 that was HIGHLY critical of the governments abuse of power, etc. There's no fucking way in hell the government would ask HIM to do such a thing. The Apollo 11 shit happened in 1969, 5 yrs after Dr. Strangelove came out.

You can speculate fiction all you want. That's the joy of believing in stuff you can't prove.. it can be whatever the hell you want it to be - no matter how flawed it is. Your imagination is the limit.

Kubrik would have had to have been forced from the start to do it by the government threatening his family or something. Then you have to come up with some reason why they never killed him after it was all finished. I'm sure you can think of something.. you have only your imagination and creativity to work with.

And I did respond to your rebuttal. So Kubrik does quality work.. there's lots of people who do quality work and don't have anti-establishment views. Even if he was the best in the world at his job it just doesn't make sense that they'd take that kind of chance with him. If they did take that kind of chance they'd kill him afterwards.

You have to admit though, it's a fascinating conspiracy theory.
The biggest sell is the motif of "America" being referenced over and over again in the movie; the American flag in the pen holder inside the man's office, the Apollo 11 sweatshirt worn by the character of Danny, and the character of Wendy saying, "Loser has to clean up America." The latter especially seems out of place and makes no sense in the context of the story.
Fake moon landing or not, I somehow feel Kubrick was trying to tell his audience something through this film.
Ya there was possibly some type of hidden message. Maybe it was his opinion that Apollo 11 was staged and he was trying to relay that.
It makes me want to look closer at a number of his films though, especially Eyes Wide Shut.. in which the message already appears obvious and conspiratorial but maybe there's something even deeper.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe all these references were just his opinion. Funny that the narrator doesn't explore that option.
