Ruby or Python...which to learn as a noobie and why?

Just caused something was "designed" to do something 10 years ago and has now evolved to handle other things, doesn't mean you only use it for that it was made for 10 years ago. If thats the case, you need to stop using the Internet for making moneys online and start using it to look at blips and beeps on the screen from someone a couple miles away.. or transfer some military secrets across long distances from one source to another.

I have a diff. mindset when it comes to this forum or anything I do online, its called "Making Money". I dont care if I use something correctly or use indexing properly or have made sure my string is not an object. I use it to make money. If your not making money as quickly and efficient as possible, then something is wrong in my mind.

Putting up apps that work and make money is what I do, I could care less if I didn't properly indent 5 spaces or used PHP to build a desktop app ( which I have ). I made money and thats what this forum is all about. Who cares whats proper and whats right. This isnt British colonial rule 500 years ago.

Make money, not pretty code. That's all there is.

Pretty code and money are usually related in the long run especially when something goes wrong. I think of it (prety code that is) as an insurance for my money. If I need to debug it after a few months it's faster and easier and I don't loose time and thus, money.

Rage9, for someone who thinks so highly of himself and so poorly of others, your ideas are scattered, and your ability to convey them properly in english is worse than my 13 Year old cousin's. I doubt anyone here apart from the OP would have trouble writing anything in PHP, it's just there are far better tools for writing desktop apps. If you think desktop apps and webapps are very similar, I don't know what you're smoking.

:P I was helpful in the sense that most people who ask this retarded question are only looking for the easy way out. Py being preinstalled would make that more attractive :p

I concur given my experience going from desktop coding (c++/vc++, vb, pascal) before 2001, then migrating to web-oriented programming (still used some of the same tools such as VB for the activeX dlls) such as Visual Interdev (ASP IDE back during Visual Studio 6). But I wouldn't call ruby or python strictly 'desktop' languages as like many languages now days they can do both (just requires an extra step go from CLI to server/client oriented).
