Running a forum? Best practice thread

My only hesitation with looking more into Xenforo is they're being tied up in legal crap by VB - and who knows how that will turn out.

I'm surprised at the lack of IPB love - maybe when I go to use it I will see different, but from everything they're doing it seems they're keeping up with the most modern approach (tying in social, one user logon across multiple sites, crowd sourced spam protection, etc.) for community forum stuff.
 


my 1st suggestion is go for vbulletin...and devoting a huge time to it ...

vBulleting seems to be everyone's suggestion in this thread... which is understandable. I'm personally going for Vanilla which is a quite quirky forum software, but then again, I'm using it to provide theme support...

OP, however, seems to be referring more to marketing tactics than to what the forum is made of (although the title suggest otherwise).

So yeah. Someone call Jon and ask him about the strategy he used on WF.
