who here has had success with content filled websites (myspace related, images, ect..) and what kind of income do you get per site? I'm asking because I got a little money to invest and I still think adsense-ads are the way to go.

It doesn't have to be big numbers either. If you make $2 a day, post it...
 


About $2 a day, plus variable amazon income.

This is from a hobby project that just happens to generate some money on the side. Ugly design, blogger blog (now thingamablog), etc... :D

What do you mean, just straight, good quality content filled pages with adsense on? In that case you don't really need to invest much money, you just need to invest time actually making the content.

I've got some pages that get a couple of dollars per day doing that. Others just get a couple of dollars per month.
 
You asked what kind of Adsense income per site, I've got sites that will do a dollar or two a day, others $40+. Nothing really spectacular on any of them. Here is what is important for building an average content site:

1) The niche. This is the biggest dividing line between earning a dollar a day and making $100. You want to find the right balance between competition and search volume. Your own knowledge also plays a big role here.

2) Content. You want pages optimized for all of the top overture keywords for the niche. Later get a forum or blog up to go after the long tail. (Although a blog adds a ton more work to a sit and wait content site.)

3) Backlinks. There are two huge variables here. a) your content, is it good? b) your niche, do other site owners like to give out links? (e.g. gaming sites, links are a piece of cake, medical sites, not so much.) I recommend getting the backlinks before placing ads.

Content sites are a great place to start. Get your sites launched as soon as possible, because domain age is going to be really important if you aren't a very good link baiter.

How do you go about researching niches and judging competition?

I havn't had much success with traditional content based websites mainly because I don't really have the patience to get the links and content required for good rankings.

As ive said before, for myself anyway, arbitrage is a good way for me to make some quick cash while working on long term projects. I like to look at arbitrage as a weekly poker game with the guys sort of say. I definately spend more time working on solid content sites that will provide a long term return on my time and money.

Holy shit 800 posts, ive never racked up this many posts on any forum except for may personal hobby forum.
 
I never create a single landing page. I usually buy domains for MFA sites and add about 20 pages. Lower CTR but more steady. When you have a content site, Its probable someone is going to add you to his/her favorites.

Single page sites dont have any SE traffic.
 
a few video game sites here and there...mid $xx/day, but i don't work on content, other stuff is far more fun for me to focus on.

Yeah, I have more than a few domains that have been sitting vacant for years, and now that I'm building more content sites, I'm kicking myself that I didn't put at least *something* up on them. Good post, btw.

are you joking me? I've been creating single page MFA sites and pull in nothing BUT SE traffic. your statement makes me think you really do not know what you are talking about and your points become invalid to me. I don't want to sound like a dick, but you saying that will influence people here in a negative way.

Now, I have noticed that one page sites don't stay in google for a long period of time (typically the sites I created stayed #1 for the keywords I targeted for about 3-4 weeks). Part of this was because of the lack of content on the page. If you add 1000 or more words on that one page, then you have less of a chance to be booted from the number one spot.


anyways, back to topic:

I have sites that pull in 1 dollar per day, and a few which are pulling 5-10 per day. I sold a couple sites that were brining me in 25 average per day, so I'm focusing on rebuilding these sites. The sites I'm building are content driven and will use RSS feeds to pull for content to be updated constantly.
 
thats the reason I said that, even if you create the most SEO friendly SINGLE PAGE, it wont be visible after a month.
