Searching for Sugar Man (2012) - IMDb

it's an amazing story about a mexican dude called rodreagez who made some music in the 70s in the USA. I never heard of him (some songs sound familiar though) but his story is amazing. Apparently he didn't really get recognition in the US, so after releasing an album or two he just returned to his original line of work - construction. However turns out he gained the status of a mega-star in south africa, they consider him more popular than elvis. He sold more than half a million copies in SA without even being aware of it!

Story is a bit hard to believe but sound legit. This way or the other, it's a great movie.. One of those that remind you of what's really important in life, no in a cheap Hollywood style, but stuff that reaches deep..
 


It is legit, just download his album - which is an unknown classic.

dont know, its real hard to believe though.. maybe cause i grew up in the internet era and this shit sounds simply unbelievable [i mean the fact he had no clue he's a superstar in another country..]

I have a hunch its a bit overstretched by the moviemakes to gain max effect.

It's a pretty good documentary, but he wasn't as obscure as they claim.

He may not have known that he was a big star in South Africa, but he toured in Australia and co-released another album.

I think the overall story is still pretty solid, though, and the dude is very humble.
 
I haven't seen the doc yet but I discovered his music last year. That one album, Cold Fact, is unbelievably good. Dude writes awesome lyrics and should've been the next Bob Dillan.
