I don't know if anyone at any other agencies has experienced this, but this year we've noticed Google getting a lot more picky with links and anchor text signals. For large competitive sites there seems to be only so many web 2.0, blog networks, and general wickedfire links you can do before you bring down the Google hammer.

So my question is, what are you guys using for larger more competitive sites now for some high quality linking?

We usually start with -
- Google plus/facebookpage/squidoo/wordpress mini sites
- High quality local/niche directories
- Web 2.0 wheels with layered links
- A handful of blog networks (the extra risk here bothers me)
- Some .edu links (usually deep within long URL's)
- A few video/document/or software links

The issue is Google isn't seeing in the long run many home page links, they're all deep inside pages with tons of spinned content out there. And after a few months its hundreds of low quality link signals. If you were an SEOMoz fanboi, you'd think it is total spam. But for most of our sites these methods work great, it's the guys with the real competitive sites that this approach doesn't work for in the long run, or it at least puts you in a position to get them penalized.

The SEOmoz approach of spending 1000 hours of manpower to guest blog post or make friends with niche site owners obviously doesnt work with an agency either when you're trying to provide services at a reasonable cost.

Has anyone found any other sites, link vendors, or methods for building more reputable links (less on the quantity side and more on quality)?

Just by reading the title of the thread I know you're following the crowd

The new name of the game is "value"

My sites aren't getting hit bad, and I keep on backlinking. Perhaps the difference is I write each and every article myself; no outsourcing or spinning.

guest blog post? you make it sound like you're expendable to the person you're providing content for. I think it's a blast talking to blog owners directly and developing a working relationship. You get such better links directly asking someone for a link exchange to their homepage than by spamming your links to directories and sites that you found in a huge list.

No method has run out, not even the get-rich-quick scheme...Only difference is the amount of work being put in.

Like 6 months ago was when things started changing, and I've seen people dropping out of the SEO game like flies. So much opportunity has opened up. The barriers of entry are higher too, so if you know what you're doing, and if you have the integrity to create something unique, you WILL succeed.

Lazy spamming from the buy sell trade of this forum can only take you so far. Adopt some more natural looking techniques such as building out satellite sites and using site wide footer links in the the satellite sites linking back to relevant pages on your money site.

Keep the spam away from your money site.

Haha nice Rand Fishkin in the house. Except he'd never recommend satellite sites as a technique. I like the idea though, we've been working that angle more. Probably need to do it more

I agree that the links are better when contacting directly but this is extremely time consuming and unless your clients are spending several thousand dollars a month it can be really difficult. I've tried that guest blog posting site with mixed results. Have you found a quicker approach to this?

I'll shoot you a PM shortly...essentially, networking with others has been a great strategy. You go off the reservation with what everyone else is buying and get creative and custom.

One tip: You probably aren't spinning your articles well enough. Almost no one does, and it leads to dupe content getting no credit. If you're submitting articles, you need sentence level spinning AND word level spinning. Even then, limit then number of posts made with each article. It's more costly to do this, but it's the only way to get any decent number of spun articles to pass copyscape.

Also not sure if you've tried homepage backlinks, but they work very well. Costly, but if the niche is right, they're worth it. Tricky part is finding providers who actually know how to buy good sites and maintain the network...one of the many reasons why I built my own.

SGW + SB Bomb + All High PR Blog Posts Services You Came Across + All Homepage Backlinks = WIN.

Blast to a 301 redir to your client = you can ask for a retainer fee = ...I already said too much.

i have never tried it, but was wondering if anyone has ever tried to get g slap the competition? like sending the competition url through Xrumer and linking there money site, leaving foot prints, duplicate content, same titles, ect..... I know this is some shady shit - just wondering peeps actually do this kind of stuff.

It's a toss up between Xrumer Profiles, Dmoz Submissionz, and Magazine Backlinks. Combine all 3 for best results.
