Should i really be making money on my sites?

I have been trying my hand at internet marketing for a bit now but have had very very few sales. I have thought for a while that i hve aimed at poor keywords or words that dont really generate the traffic. EG one keyword i rank 1 for in google only gets approx 5-15 visitors per day - if i had done my keyword research correct i think i would have seen that and not bothered with it.

My question is this though, although the sites mentioned rank 'well' or indeed for number one, but for phrases or words with very very little traffic, why are their adwords on the side? are these keywords of value to someone? if this is the case, should i really be making more money with them, getting regular sales (stop making excuses for myself!). Just find it bizarre that for a keyword that has only estimated 10 visitors per day, people are bidding for the keywords.

Please note that i am still very much in my infancy in all this and dont have a full understanding of adwords etc, just played with seo, linkbuilding etc so far. As said though im guessing that if people are bidding for them terms, they must have some sort of value?

Any guidance or thoughts would be really appreciated

Kind regards

Alan

could be a lot of reasons. the keyword my convert really well for them, or they may have a broad based match (so not bidding on that kw specifically). If you have a whole lot of cheap keywords that collectively get a lot of clicks, then it maybe cheaper or easier route then targeting some of the broader and more expensive keywords.

probably making adword ad for such keyphrase which is still targeted much easier (just add it to keywords in adwords lol) than SEOing them all ? And they may have hudreds of such keywords.

Is all you get 5-15 visitors a day ?

p.s. yeah, like poster above:)

target lot of that keywords

Hi, yeah one post since june! read a bit here stll but with college, work and family i've not really touched the sites, just getting back into it looking for advice, and noticed the rankings, adverts and lack of sales hence the question. sorry if erm 'leechy'!

SEOlinker, yeah i only get that much per day, so i put it down to choosing poor keywords at the beginning, and was going to leave them as potentials and do something with my (slightly) better knowledge now, but was really asking if it is worth building on it as they do actually have adverts there. Cheers to you and music4mic, yeah something like that i was thinking, that maybe adwords arent a great guide to go from anyway.

Cheers for the replies so far!

But you rank only on one of that keywords, which still give you very targeted ~10 visits/day....Rank for 100 such keywords - not that hard as you can see, that will be 1000 visits/day = solid moneys (if you get sales even with that traffic of 10/day)

I think you already know the answer to your problem. If you rank #1 for your chosen keywords and only get 10-15 visitors a day then you need to get some better keywords that are more searched for. You could also try adding some other CPA offers on your site as well instead of adwords, maybe you'll do better with that.
