Try this: Newegg.com - ZyXEL X550NH IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft 2.0 Wireless Router - Wireless Routers

i have a really tough house to hook up wirelessly and it's extremely network intensive with all the computers, downloading and gaming. I've been through them all and decided to take a chance on a noname one. Turned out to be a great decision.

By far the best router i've ever used. I give it A++ and the bandwidth management and the separate but attachable high gain dipole antennas are SICK.

one thing that i didn't read in the manual before i bought it that should be noted.
it can do priority bandwidth allocation. So you can turn it on for different services such as xbox live and torrents and give them not only a higher/lower priority on the network but also specify a minimum bandwidth for them. So if like xbox live is being used you can force it to always be pulling a certain amount of kb/s and take a priority over services such as email or ftp. I suspect this is going to be extremely handy with all the roommates I have because anytime someone wants to jump on xbox live we've always had to go close out on any computers using torrents first and sometimes my FTPing lags out someones WOW game.

It's definitely got a better processor, memory and concurrent connection rate than netgear, linksys and dlink but the verdict is still out on whether it can compare to a smc barracade.

I've always just used anything that's compatible with DD-WRT.
I'm a fan. In my old house, I had an older d-link router as the main router (in a back office room where the cable hookup was) that didn't provide good signal to the second floor on the other end of the house. I put DD-WRT on a Linksys router, and turned a $40 router into a bridge.

yeah zyxel is an awesome router brand.. i got an x-550 myself..not that router you showed but it def gets job done..

Just an FYI ZyXEL has been around for quite a while and are pretty huge in the IT world - Its just not a basic consumer brand like Linksys or Netgear.

Nevertheless Great Routers.

And if your looking for a Hardcore home Firewall/DHCP/Router server that you can attach that ZyXEL to, try out PfSense (advanced users ONLY)

Happy Networking!

I'll pick one of these up when I get an apartment, for sure. I'm sick of my D-Link router, I had to buy wireless card for my PC that had 3 antennas just to get over 50% connectivity. With one I had less than 20 and my connection would drop every 5 minutes. I'm fucking 15 feet from the router.
