Those of you in California should appreciate this especially.

So I sit in front of a computer in a room in California. For that, the broke ass state of California with all their elaborate state pension funds wants me to give them 9% of my income.

If I make 2 million this year, that is $180k for sitting in a room in California.

What are the requirements to claim state residence (set LLCs) in a non-socialist state like Wyoming, Florida, Nevada or Montana where they wouldn't want my 180K?

Anyone know resources where I can find the requirements? Or if anyone here knows the requirements, please share.

Thanks.

As a former resident of the state of CA, I know you could domicile the corp in NV and have zero state income taxes. However, if there are any operations performed within the state of CA, they could still require you to file with the SOS's office there as well and pay their taxes anyway.

Get a NV address, phone, presence and you could possibly pull it off but there are possibilities of getting nailed on it.

Get creative.

Right. Its the making it legitimate or seemingly legitimate part that I am trying to better understand. If I need to set up an actual residence for most or part of the year I will. I assume I might need to set up bank accounts and other things there as well. That's why I asked. To get all the feedback I can.

You can easily find an AFS in NV as they have a pretty big business there doing that sort of thing. Just make it legit and you might not run into any issues.

Standard disclaimers apply here: I'm not an accountant or a lawyer (even though I play one on TV).

AFS? What does this stand for.

(Ignorance apology)

And if you happen to have business bank accounts in CA, don't deposit checks from your NV corp. into that account - EVER!

QFT for sure, good point. My old AFS in NV actually provided me with lists of NV based banks that offered some great services for a 'remote' CEO. I'd check for any banks that are state chartered if they can't help you with that.

You're totally missing the point here. If his company is domiciled in NV, he won't owe taxes in CA now will he?

well actually he probably will, since his taxes are coming due very shortly. Its a little to late to move to another state when all of this years' (08 Fiscal) info, accounts, etc. are located in CA.

i live in CA. Its bullshit that we have the highest state taxes in the country, but our state is totally broke and theyre giving IUO's to govt employees.
who can explain that?
