It's getting kind of ridiculous. I have a few low-end devices running mostly WinRT stuff that only have 1-2GB of RAM. I don't use Skype, but Chrome will crush your memory. Also those news websites in Google News are so bad with the ads that they consistently crash the flash plugin with literally 2 tabs open and like 10 minutes on onsite time. I recently upgraded to 16GB of RAM in my desktop, but it wasn't for games or actual intensive processes, just websites. Kind of queer when you think about it.

On the topic of Chrome being a memory hog. On Chrome and Firefox I have Flash on the setting 'only by permission'. This makes it so on all websites it grays out the flash/pauses it so I have to click to play it. It will be night and day for you going through sites.
