This is most likely a retarded question but for the life of me I can't figure this out. In any case, I brought some boobs along.

K I'm not going to out the sites but I found more than one and they are pretty much search engines. Scrape google and yahoo and shopping sites for results and always the first 10 most relevant results are "sponsored listings". Also from the ways I found the sites, I'm pretty batshit convinced these are arbi powerhouses.

Anyway, the question is. Who do they get these sponsored listings from? who pays them? It sure as hell isn't adsense. There is no link on the side or anywhere that says "these ads were served by bla bla. " like there usually is with any content network type ads.

any ideas?

If you don't recognize the ads, check the source code, look for any URLs around them. Type them in, see where they go. Look em up, follow them and most likely they will point to an advertising network.

I actually found another site just now and his links are a bit more revealing. They are doing something like this. The ads go through their own redirect on their own server, then the user gets sent over to an ad from a search engine, and then gets redirected to the place he wants to be.

here's an example for an ad that showed up for "fax" when I hovered over.

example,com/clickserver/_iceUrlFlag=1?rawURL=http%3A%2F%2Frc12.overture.com%2Fd%2Fsr%2F%3Fxargs%3D15KPjg17dStpamwr%252Drdb%255FJTOuEy1oaxca58cNqCZd7H9Vf8mQ8De15ZqSVqPVdROxn%252DF%252DNwPCc%252Da8SL%255FD8n%255FKDFQaMRlCIEODpjdLJz4I%252DP6%252DhUNlC24UUmefomYBIO3YBYGwdSOKj3uPKIt75KS8K84sKxR2PjqktzM60weQZFb%255FZ21J%252D7Q2FLMlbuek%255F0J7OKZJ9TbBdDq2YkVeTcZtFvsokw%252DCkbhAiASqg5ml631qGVTh%255Ft%255FHAe40XurXvn5GZaefrzY1TPRXb4qU25UbJjm7ZlprGBz%252DZjYNpsggJS72tNzeE1l1w6%252D6O36e0bJ8M52%252DuX52dGnnhMBp2flMgCPrdfxXuHCMx4gjWNZhGZ5ij%252DwKOMA%252E%252E&0=&1=0&4=74.205.26.219&5=99.144.242.98&9=f1fb4bcb780e4277a5a4565fbe02ca01&10=1&11=us.infoblend.6&13=search&14=239134&15=main-title&17=6&18=2&19=1&20=6&21=0&22=2UHeFJlxdM8%3D&40=vllTtRUa3u1Q01BDFPp2gA%3D%3D&_IceUrl=true

If you look into it you can see this one goes through overture, but most of them go through google or ask. The question I have is, how the hell is he mixing all those up and is it actually in the TOS of the search networks to do so?

Also, i tried to look it up but couldn't find any info on search feeds. Can you explain a bit what they are? I know these sites are enormous traffic sites so the owners are big boys. Maybe they're using them.

EDIT wow fuck. Well that's what I get for hotlinking my boobs. Here's another one.

Those are just some of the "search partners" that ads get displayed on from Google and Yahoo... nothing against the TOS (usually).

most of these are from yahoo search feeds, formerly overture. unless you have a good "in," or you have a really large site with decent traffic, you will not be able to find a source that would allow you to run one. those with access protect these feeds as they could lose them at any time for poor traffic quality (TQ), etc, etc... if you do find one, you will usually get anywhere from 50% to 70% of the raw click earnings, depending on your TQ, the amount of traffic you get and your negotiation skills and power.

How bout sites like kosaani.com, searchfeed.com, or ppcsearchfeed.com

You're saying they won't accept me if I don't have 6 million monthly views?

I have all major markets Yahoo! feed + Google and Ask.
I am currently handling over 50 publishers at this time and I don't have any particular issue with TQs, low TQ=low rev. share...you simply get what you send.
Cpl of my publishers are from WF as well, and they can feedback smooth service and on-time payments.
I won't out my company here, just PM me for details.

Have you ever checked your referrers on Yahoo!? 70% of that traffic at least is domainers doing arbitrage with their feed. Yahoo! gives their feed out to any douchebag that wants it who can drive volume.

Corrected.
I wouldn't say that. Though Yahoo doesn't make it easy to see which clicks are coming from Yahoo and which from their search partners, but I run my own tracking system to match referrers with leads/sales. ROI from clicks on their search partner sites is usually fairly similar to Yahoo, at least on the large campaign that I'm running now.

That's pretty interesting that you saw conversions from their partners equaling search.yahoo.com. Back when I was doing PPC, I had 3 campaigns going where 100% of conversions came from search.yahoo.com. Not a single one from their partners.

It's easy to see Partner referral URLs with tracking. I had daily conversations with them about some of those sites but they still give you the old "yes, we have a lot of requests for that and we'll pass it along to our dev team" bullshit.

Some of the referral sites I was seeing didn't even have the 4 line text ads. They had a single keyword as a link. Complete B.S.
