Gents (and Gentesses),

I'm looking for some assistance for how to correctly use social bookmarking.

I understand that backlinks (forum posts, yahoo answers, squidoo, ezine, etc etc), if do-follow and on a decently related anchor & high PR page are good for your SERP.

I also understand that social bookmarking is exactly that, for bookmarking your website on social bookmarking sites, such as Digg or Reddit.

Now, my question comes from the fact that I used RedVirus's bookmarking service on a new website and it still does not appear at all in the keyword which I am looking for. This, as far as I can tell, has no reflection on RedVirus who was great to deal with and provided links which I confirmed.

As such, my question is: Was it incorrect of me to use social bookmarking to try to launch my new website?

Should I have perhaps used it on say ezine articles which then link to my money site instead of linking directly to my money site? Or say, built some base links to my money before aiming the social bookmarking at my money site?

This is experimentation for me, as I had great SERP improvements coming from BBLeo's link wheel, but that was aimed at an exsisting site which had some fairly strong backlinks (at least for me anyway!).

Any comments, discussion or feedback would be appreciated as always.

Social Bookmarking is all about indexing these days and it still works on some part. So don't think of Social Bookmark links as of backlink to your website. Think about it as a way to let Google know about you backlinks. This might save you a lot of time and hassle when it comes to Social Bookmarking.

Thanks Instrumentalist & Navix. I work well with visual aids, mostly pornography but I am sure that'll help too.

Red, Thanks I'll be in touch when I can. Currently working in the middle of nowhere (Googlemap "Paraburdoo, Western Australia" then look about 40km South - Yep, nothing, thats where I am) so internet access is restricted as is my time.

Job 2 is doing just fine, I have one more site to hurdle to get to number 1 spot which I am quite excited about.

Job 1 (the new site) is where it appears I have not used social bookmarking (Your service) correctly. I didn't build any other links to the site before using your service & it appears A) Google doesn't get a semi over that and B) I am using social bookmarking in a less than efficient manner.
