I sold a site last month. Buyer was not interested in the mailing list of 1,600 people. I haven't emailed them since April 2014.

Now, I have a website's mailing list without the website. Its on mailchimp and I got 1 spam warning before, about a year ago.

So, what should I do?

My guess is to send a few emails out, see how much I make, and then put it up on Flippa to see how much it'll go for? Any better solutions?

Evaluate the spam warning a little more. What was the subject line and offer? What email provider were they on?

Some people have problems with certain types of people like aol.com emails.

Maybe clean the list or your offer a little and email it.

Are they buyers? If so, try a re-engagement campaign and try to grab some cash out of them.

If they're just signup freebie seekers, you can test it out, but it's probably not worth it 9 months after they signed up. You'll just get a ton of spam complaints.

change the sent from email to a gmail if it is one which is one a server with other websites with emails you care about, so there is no risk of Hotmail banning your server.

then tell them the truth, you have parted ways with the old as you wanted to take things to the next level, this new product has been created to make you mega rich/muscly/attractive/happy/liked it is new, revolutionary and has gone beyond the past version

give them a prominent unsubscribe button just before something free, so they don't feel spammed.

Send out a quick email with an offer to a small portion of your list. If anyone bites, and there's no setbacks, try scaling to more offers & a bigger portion of the list.
If you're getting spam complaints then consider dropping or selling the list.
