I recently uploaded my website and I'm finaly ready to start my SEO campaign.
Now I have a question, does it hurt your site, if you go to random forums and get a signature with a link to your site there, or is this a good thing, cus it's a one way link? I mean do all the links have to be in the related niche (I know it's better for getting targeted traffic, but I want my site to rank high as well).
Also, I read that submitting your site and a xml site map to the search engines is outdated , but can it hurt to do it anyway?
Thanks guys.

The best links are .edu and .gov links. You can buy link packs or hire someone to do it for you. Backlinking will probably be one of the most tedious things you'll do in your SEO campagin. Tedious but necessary. You don't want to waste your time.

As much as possible, Yes it should be relevant. Because example if your niche is about diet loss and you post on forums related to movies? And we all know that the visitors viewing on that movie forum is interested about movies so who cares about diet loss on that community? I hope I explained it right!

1. There is nothing wrong with getting backlinks, get as many as you can. The more targeted to your niche the better. Use anchor text with your target keyword.

2. Submitting a sitemap will not hurt your rankings.

Thanks for the info! I'm not going to hire people to put links for me tho.
It's my first time doing SEO so I want to do the link creating process myself, I want to learn what works and what doesn't.

Thanks and yeah I understand posting on random forums won't create that much direct traffic from those links but, it is a one way link, which is what I meant.
For example if I can get 100 links in related niche sites and 1000 links in unrelated sites, that's better for my ranking then just the 100 links in related niches right?

Thanks that's what I thought but I wanted to make sure.
Also if the keyword you want to aim for is in your root domain name, let's say your keyword is fastcars, and your domainname is fastcarsheaven.com , does creating a link to your root domain count as anchored text? Cus the keyword is in there.
Thanks for all the help guys.

if your site is newly launched and you making hundred of back links a day , you will be penalize by google..
Most of the seo experts, start link building after 6 month atleast and if you want to start link building with your main site from the site making day, then first create 3 blogs linking to your site and for 3-4 months,do back linksing for they blogs, not for google...

it will give you a lesser profit in terms of money but gives higher revenue in terms of seo and future money.

Get some high pr or high trust links to you, At first go for quality rather then quantity, it'll take a month or two for the high pr links to have a good effect on your site then you can start ramping up your backlinks.
