Got a few questions.

1.) How long should I be running an ad/campaign before deciding it's a failure? 100 clicks? 300 clicks? 500 clicks? more?

2.) Should an offer more or less be converting right out of the gate? i.e. how many clicks on a dating offer NOT converting should I let go through before saying fuck it?

For reference I'm doing, of course, dating and targeting single women since they're allegedly easier to convert (at least with this particular offer). I'm not sure if I'm just breaking even/losing money because I'm not running them long enough but I'm at the point where losing more money on paid traffic is getting hard to stomach, so it's possible this is it.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all

I'm by no means a FB expert, but I have had a few dating campaigns go my way.

My general rule on how much to spend before saying it's a failure: If I spend 2-3x the offer payout without a conversion I scrap it. If I get a few conversions, then I just keep testing images and see if I can get a higher CTR and lower CPC.

All that being said, pretty much every dating campaign that I've run has been really cut and dry, and I know without spending a ton of money.

As far as how many clicks before saying it's a failure- well if I'm getting .01 clicks and the offer payout is $1.00, then I consider it a success if it converts at 1:75 or better.

Lots of unorganized sentences:
This is a really difficult question... People are going to flame you for asking but it's something we all have a hard time figuring out.

In my mind it's all about making realistic estimates on how you can improve an ad/lp. Ask yourself as data is coming in if there is any way possible to make the campaign profitable. I'll do quick calculations like 'I can easily get this ctr to .15 with some more split tests of images; with my current conversion rate will it be profitable?' etc. Some offers are just garbage and it's best to ditch them early on. If you've sent a lot of clicks, have some good ad variations and have no leads the offer is probably just crap. I'm sure you've experienced sending a lot of highly targeted traffic, with ad text that really explains what the user is expected to do, and got 0 leads. Just move on to something else IMO. It's hard to do because you see high network epcs, have AMs telling you some guy is banking off of it, etc but you've obviously got the wrong traffic source / approach for the offer in that case.

This is just how I do it. For some reason certain offers are easier for me, probably because of the approach I use. But at the same time I have friends who test things to death, and can make offers I deemed unprofitable, profitable (however they struggle with the offers I do well with). Being smart and forward thinking in how you structure your ad tests goes a long way. It's a process that takes time and money.

Edit:
All that being said, pretty much every dating campaign that I've run has been really cut and dry, and I know without spending a ton of money.
I agree with this, it's probably just a flaw in how I test (I probably give up on offers too quickly) but I've never had much success with an offer that didn't convert at a decent rate from the start. It seems like offers are either convert really well or convert at such a bad rate I start getting paranoid and think the network's tracking is down or something.

Great info--thanks a lot man. +1

Excellent, thank you +1 too.

You can never get million clicks on anything, unless you are Coca-Cola or something major like that.

1) Depends upon what and you are running. I've been running dating since over 2 years on facebook so in my case I would stop if the offer doesnt convert at even 50 clicks.

Question number 2 is similar to number 1, just phrased differently.

Eric, are you Direct Linking or using a LP for this offer?

Direct linking. Here's the thing: I've got some ad copy that IS converting (and breaking even) but I can't get my clicks cheap enough to make it profitable at all. Now I'm split testing images to try to get a better CTR but every time I've tried this the CTR kills conversions, drives the EPC lower and THAT makes the campaign fail as well.

That's a good offer then. You have to switch to lp now. Test, tweak, pre sell the offer and you should start seeing a higher conversion rate.

I would NOT direct link on Facebook anymore. You'll do far better if you have an LP. That should also help your conversion rate issue. Keep that CTR up and your CPC will eventually start to drop.

I usually just sit there and watch my shit and arbitrarily decide when to stop it if it's not working. Also depends how involved I am in that vertical and if I already have an idea of how it should perform or not. If I tried something new like dating and I picked, for example, an offer with a $5 payout, I'd probably drop about $50 and then based on how profitable or unprofitable it was I'd decide whether to keep it, tweak it, or scrap it. Or if it gets a few conversions right at the end, I might just stick it out a little longer and see what happens.

If you're only spending 2-3x the payout and then deciding to scrap it, you might be throwing away a good campaign because a lot of offers fluctuate wildly so dropping $10 on a campaign won't tell you anything. One of my most profitable offers right now will average about .10 epc the majority of the day and then it shoots up to .20 at specific hours. I have another offer that will hit .30 some days and then drop to .10-.15 other days (same traffic sources and everything). So imo you really have to test shit for awhile to get a feel for if it's working or not.

What do I do with the LP though? I've been in this situation before and when I asked people how to make a good LP a bulk of the people in the thread said to not use an LP and to simply direct link--including Ryan Eagle and other people who seem to know what they're talking about. I have no idea what I'd use as a pre-sale for a dating campaign, I can't seem to find anyone using them on Facebook either.

Same questions as above really...^^

Thanks for the info. I'm at the point where I just spend $100 testing one campaign, break even, then I basically don't know what to do after that, although the conversions seem pretty consistent throughout the day.

Your #1 thing is high CTR on your ad, so try something a little vague that will get the clicks, like "Is This Girl Hot? Click here and be judge for yourself"

Then your LP has to sell the idea that there are TONS of these girls all around you right now! In your neighborhood! Maybe even on your street! And they sign up to these dating sites to get fucked hard!

Ya mean?

A simple ad like "Meet Single Women" tries to sell too hard. So many impressions are wasted because people will think "ANOTHER fucking dating ad, fuck that"

Get them to click. Then sell the idea of the conversion with a strong LP.

+1 for actually putting the info into perspective, I appreciate that. Great points raised.

If you're dropping $100 and it's lasting you the entire day, that's a little weird. I usually blow through $100 in an hour tops. So that leads me to believe that your ctr is incredibly low which means the reason for you not profiting is poor ad design. If ctr goes up, cost goes down, and now your campaign is profitable.

Never tried dating but I like that idea. People like ads that don't look like ads. Look at porn sites, they all have those ads that say "FACEBOOK SEX" and have a huge row of pictures of girls and a ripped-off Facebook logo in the corner. People see that shit, they think "hell yea I wanna fuck some bitches on Facebook" and they click the ad. Even though the actual offer (usually Fling) has nothing to do with Facebook at all.
