stupid photoshop...

More accurately: stupid me.

So I am using photoshop (which I bearly know how to do) and I like creating rectangles with a solid color, which I then move around to create backgrounds or block off stuff I don't like...

Then I hit something, no idea what - and I lose that ability. Now when I use the shape tool, it makes an unmoveable shape that can be filled, and the 'fill color' can be moved, but the shape sits there.

What did I do? How can I get my simple solid shapes back?

I guess that you are using the rectangle tool. When you have that selected, underneath Edit Image in the menu, you can choose 3 things. The right one there should be selected, fill pixels. This might be your issue.
