Or maybe North Koreans are somewhat media savvy too and don't want their threats drowned out by another big story so they go quiet.

I find that more plausible than the league of evil in their bunker in the centre of the earth telling journalists what to say.

Center of the earth? Bunker? League of evil? Sheesh... Someone here is watching too many cartoons.

Even back in ancient Roman times, desperate governments have always done whatever they could to distract the citizenry from what's really going on. Look up "Bread and Circuses" & read some more history for chrissakes!

Or maybe... The world is a little more nuanced and there is a little bit of skullduggery, but there isn't a big master plan by the government.

It seems like the argument goes that a) Government is totally incapable inefficient and can't do anything b) the government is also so sophisticated and efficient that it's able to globally mastermind a giant conspiracy that only people on internet forums know about.
