Since this is pretty much my first post I guess I should set the stage (not that anyone really cares.)

I've always been interested in the internets and computers in general. I've been doing web and graphic design off and on since I was in junior high school. Fast forward to today...

I've been interested in AM for a while but never really had the balls to jump in and play (mainly because I just didn't understand it.) I found WickedFire about a week ago thanks to a post on UberAffiliate. Since then I have done nothing but read (in fact, my productivity has gone to shit in the past week and my head feels like its about to explode...) Anyways, to the point of this shit...There are a lot of really great, smart[ass] people on WF. I have learned more here in the past week than I ever thought possible. You all really gave me the kick in the ass that I needed. I signed up with two affiliate companies over the weekend (copea, and neverblue -- read about them here, I think I even used someone's ref link) and got approved by neverblue today.

I will always continue to read and expand my knowledge but I am really eager to try the stuff I have learned here (and come up with my own methods of course -- that's what it's all about) In the meantime I look forward to trolling the forums and providing whatever information that I learn through my own trial and error. That is of course until I screw up and get flamed, banned, and my personal information is spread about :)

Thanks again to everyone who contributes to WF...You don't know how much it means to us noobs.

plasticBrain, I'm new too. I just got canned here at Christmas by some mean people after 6 years of hard work as a Linux Senior Systems Engineer and a moonlight PHP/PostgreSQL Web Developer. Mean people suck.

I still suck at this wickedfire stuff.... Just give me 12 more years and I shall be victorious!

Supermike, you seem like a smart guy and I'm sure you'll recover. BTW, some of your posts are long as hell, interested in writing content for me? :O~~

I have a degree in English Literature, oddly enough. I had this fascination with computers and with wanting to be a millionaire, but then thought in college I could make more money as a lawyer. So, I de-enrolled from Comp Sci and switched to English because I was told that Law Schools looked on that favorably. I couldn't really write well at that time, but said, "What the Hell?" and did it just to spite myself. I started out making F's and D's. However, slowly and with hard work, I made A+'s and began helping teach some of the classes, which is something they expect of you when you hit your Senior year, and tutoring new students. You get to a point where they make you write and read so much that it becomes second nature to you, and you love the fact that you finally forget about it and you just do it.

However, I got out in the real world as a technical writer and editor, had a panic attack over the cashflow several years ago, and realized that not only would I hate being a lawyer, but I would have a very long road to make the kind of cash I would need for law school. So, down and out, my buddies at the day job spoke to me and handed me a magazine. They were ex-AT&T employees working on a Federal contracting gig in DC. The magazine was Network World or something like that. They said, "You need to become a Novell CNE. You could train for it in a year and then make a lot of cash."

Long story short, I went from Novell, to IBM, and then to Microsoft. I switched to programming and web development, then dabbled in some startup web firms, then back to Microsoft again (via Avanade) to become a fly-around consultant. Somewhere along the line, I got to thinking about Microsoft products:

* They were getting more and more complex, and Linux was getting easier and easier.
* They were booting slower and running slower, and Linux was zipping along.
* You suddenly realize on Windows you have to pay for tools and scripts most of the time, but on Linux everyone shares.
* They kept renaming their dev platform and APIs every year, even slowing down some of their APIs and calling them "cooler", and Linux was grabbing mindshare of developers and didn't play the API-renaming game as badly.
* They were getting far less secure, and the Blaster virus, for me, was the icing on the cake.
* They were getting more and more expensive. I was paying $3K a year for my MSDN subscription in order to remain competitive in the marketplace and it was getting old.
* I started noticing that everyone was cutting costs, and they were sticking more Linux in their server rooms than Microsoft, and it was doing very well.

So, I decided it was time to hang up the Nintendo OS (Microsoft Windows) and switch to Linux, sink or swim, using it at the workplace and at home. I even switched my wife and kids to it. From there, I tried Java, hated it, then JSP, hated it, and eventually settled on PHP, which I like a lot.

In the end, after many years in the IT industry, I find myself enjoying the thrill of coding, making something out of nothing, like a building architect. AM, for me, is a way to hedge my bets or become an accidental millionaire. But I will always code, even if I'm sitting in an old folk's home with nothing but a pad of paper and some crayons. Ha ha.

Why the FUCK do you feel the need to always bump old posts supermike. For someone with so much education under your belt, you sure are a dumbfuck.

EAT SHIT.

Actually, what is wrong with bumping old stuff? I was bumping your mum the other night and it was kinda OK.

Maybe it's just his avatar that enrages me.
Or maybe I'm just an angry person.

Either way... He sucks.

Ahh... being an angry person. I can relate.
Carry on then.

I agree. I'm a noob 2, but im finding WF really useful. Is a good place to get noobies started. especially reading posts about other people's success and failure for us to acknowledge what we are going into
