I've recently launched a forum and having a difficult time getting people to join in the action.

I know making fake profiles is a poor's man work and paying for post already sounded annoying.

So what's the best way to go about this?

I'm all ear :bigear:

Depends on what the forum's about, honestly.

It's fairly easy to get a forum going on certain topics with offline promotions more so than online.
Music and campus life spring to mind.

Oh yeah, and make sure that you've set the damn thing to no-follow on the links, otherwise you're going to be a spam haven, and it'sa pain in the arse having to find plugins that actually do away with spambots effectively.

Can you please link to the site because it will really help me understand what the problem is. But given no information I am going to have to say that you need to work on promotion, get the word out there!

I cant help you. I failed at creating 4 fora. The one that works is the one I never worked on. One that did attract people was a contest, because the forum was about a game, and the prize was a collector's edition package of the game. I had to ban half the forum members that week. Good times...

I don't have any problem getting new members BUT getting them to post is a pain in the ass.

My forum is about self help/improvement, located Netblix Community - Powered by vBulletin

I'm beginning to think paying for post is the best route and once I get a little momentum rolling I'll begin to promote the hell out of it.

P.S. I've already spent $500 promoting & advertising but with NO LUCK, success seems so far for me to grasp which I can only dream, hope and pray now.

Any of you out there have had success building a community... don't be a silent and toss me some tips!
