Pale Moon is an Open Source, Firefox-based web browser available for Microsoft Windows and Linux (with other operating systems in development), focusing on efficiency and ease of use. Make sure to get the most out of your browser!

Pale Moon offers you a browsing experience in a browser completely built from its own source with carefully selected features and optimizations to maximize the browser's speed*, stability and user experience, while maintaining compatibility with thousands of Firefox extensions many have come to love and rely on.

Main features:

  • Optimized for modern processors
  • Firefox-based: As safe as Mozilla's flagship browser
  • Supported by a friendly, active community of users
  • Familiar, efficient, fully customizable interface (no Australis!)
  • Smooth and speedy page drawing and script processing
  • Increased stability: experience fewer browser crashes
  • Support for Firefox extensions (add-ons) and themes
  • Uses slightly less memory because of disabled optional code
  • Support for SVG, Canvas and downloadable fonts
  • Extensive support for HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL
  • More customization and configuration options than Firefox
  • Able to use existing Firefox profiles with the migration tool

This browser, even though close to Firefox in the way it works, offers a different set of features than its sibling. For example, if you need specialized accessibility features or integration of Windows' parental controls, then Pale Moon may not be a good browser choice for you.

With the current generation of Gecko-based browsers, there are a few other differences between Pale Moon and Firefox that are more obvious and not just "under the hood": contrary to what Mozilla has done with their redesign of the user interface, Pale Moon will continue to provide a familiar set of controls and visual feedback similar to previous versions, including grouped navigation buttons of a decent size, a bookmarks toolbar that is enabled by default, tabs next to page content by default (easily switchable) and not in the least a functional status bar and more freedom in customization, to name a few things.

Have only been using it for a day but really liking it so far. Seems noticeably faster than chrome. Really hoping this will give me the excuse to drop chrome and go back to a "firefox" browser. Anyone else using it yet?

Oh and btw, they accept bitcoin, and litecoin donations.

Firefox did piss me off by shrinking the size of the 9 websites from the homepage to make way for an advertising div but not to the extent I would ditch it entirely.

If you want to use Chrome why don't you use Chromium?

I see nothing like that, you sure you don't have adware?

Tried PaleMoon few years ago, was pretty rough, had some compatibility issues with plugins, maybe it's better now.

You def have some kind of adware on there.

I don't necessarily want to use chrome. Google is fucking around with it and it's beginning to show signs of bloat. I have been a firefox guy since the day Netscape Navigator came out, but the devs fucked it up a few years ago forcing me to change to Chrome. Im just looking for an excuse to go back, even if it's just to finger fuck firefox's slutty sister.

Just downloaded it, looks cool specially the installer that detects if you need a 64 or 32 bit, cool

btw You might as well try kmeleon, its worth a shot for memory consumption freaks

Firefox's latest dev branches are now including spots for advertising on the tab page. It's not in the general channels yet.

What Quaffapint said.

I can't find the exact article for the life of me but a few firefox updates ago the design of the default new tab screen changed. Each website image tile shrunk effectively becoming more squished. This was due to the Google Search Bar being shifted downwards with inexplicable grey taking up too much of the main div, seemingly for no reason.

Anyway, I searched around to see if anyone else noticed this slight cosmetic change with the update and some guy clearly smarter than me thought to simply inspect the HTML and they found there was a div called "ad" or "advertising".

Currently nothing appears in this div but one day it may well be an advert. This is an article from back in February which mentions the possibility, I've had a look I originally read around 1 month ago but can't find it:

Firefox has been runnign smoothly for me, tab groups and all. Honestly, I think it's some of the add-ons people are installing that make it seem slow. Default install of Firefox runs fine. I don't even use treestyletabs anymore (but use tab groups more heavily).

Love Firefox, but the RAM issues find myself using Chrome more and more
Using Palemoon for the last 7-8 hours, It doesnt have memory issues as far as I know, like what firefox had. When using netbook out of home, Firefox is jumping from 100k - 500k memory and 100% CPU usage consumption. Right now Palemoon is sticking at 100-150k memory consumption even with 6 tabs open
